I have the newest drivers installed. like 177.79 (nvidia) and I also got the newest RivaTuner 2.09

but when I install the RivaTuner, it gives me an error saying "Can't assign Digitaled assign Driver" or some error close to that nature.... SO i went ahead and continued the installation.

When i load up the program, everything loads up and it detects everything ok, so i hit the check box to allow for driver OCing, and move the sliders in the 3d max performance mode from 400Mhz to 450Mhz (just a small OC) and the Shader is tagged along with it and it moves from 800-900.

The problem is when I hit the apply button it appears to be saved. but when i reload the program. its set back on its default Clock. I also run GPU-Z and it everything looks completely normal as well showing no OCing what so ever.. so it looks like the OCing is not sticking.. i think it might have to do with it not being able to install properly without the digitaled assigned drivers.

Anyone know a fix to this?

My system specs are basicaly in my Signature.

You might want to NOT do that considering they're all defective?

are you refering to the graphics card it self (the chipset)? they are only getting reports in from HP and Dell with failures. And i have neither of those brands.

so back on topic... does anyone know how i can get this to work?

update.. i installed it with the digitaly assignment off... and it still won't hold when choose an OC and hit apple, i even dropped to an older nvidia driver 175.12

does anyone have any suggestions for me?

i think iam hitting or missing over here.... drivers around 169 generally doesn't even work at all and the videocard is unable to go into full 3d mode, and then drivers 175 and 177 seem to have full function but doesn't hold when being OCed.

    1. ALL 8400M GS chips and chipsets are DEFECTIVE. They all use the same core. This has already been confirmed by nVidia. You OC this GPU will cause it to burn out...I guaranteed it.

    2. I would try using 169.04 Drivers. These are well known OC'able drivers that are very stable.

tried those drivers. Rivatuner doesn't even pick it up at all. its so weird... and with those drivers the videocard does not go into 3d mode..

i have a DDR3 8400m gs which is a newer one. so maybe thats why its not compatible with those drivers... it seems like the newere ones will pick up on the 3d performance switch, but those older ones don't even work for me at all. it only stays in 2d mode.

as of the defective chipset.. if i have it or not.. i don't see how its an issue with what iam doing.

Basically when you OC the chipset, it gets hotter. The problem with the defective chipset is temperature fluctuations. It can't handle going from cold-warm-hot-warm-cold because it has a defective material in the actual chipset which will cause it to burn out by itself

    here's a rivatuner guide:

well.. like i said again... i know about the defective chips.. and i sorta don't care about it.. we are all sorta stuck with this problem. and the only people that it has really been effecting are the HP and Dell users.. which they are in luck because they could just use Dell's and HP's excellent Warrenty to fix the problem when it does fail. Iam sure when this thing breaks i'll just send it to Sony's warranty service if my laptop does end up breaking within that time.. but my temp has been staying around 60's for the past month.. and it looks like its not getting worst according to GPU-Z sensor's.. so i truely don't care about the defective chips right now.. and just want this thing OCed in 64 bit windows.

well i sorta know everything from that link already... but i can't get it to work with this particular PC which has 64 bit windows installed.

Is there anyone here with DDR3 8400m GS and 64 bit windows that could give some good advice?

i did a google search and it seems like serveral other people had the same issues on other forums but no of them were resolved.

i don't mean to be rude megaman.. but iam really really trying to find serious help here, i would appreciate it if you only replied with something on this thread's first topic.

Very well said first paragraph xD. Really, the defect isn't a big deal with a warranty at all. I'll stay tuned in this thread since I want to overclock my 8400 in my inspiron. It only reaches 51-53c under load, so I think I've got ample room to tinker with it.
