So my Dell Vostro 1500 has 512MB of memory but only 256 of it is dedicated. I was wondering if this is similar to hypermemory so that you can turn the memory off and get an increase in performance. Similar to the 7400GO. My GPU is 8600M GT

You don't get an increase in performance by decreasing the amount of memory...

Anyway, I do not know how to do this or if it even possible!

Nvidia's TurboCache is very good - it is hardware-based versus the software-only ATI HyperMemory. Check the GPU Guide for a more in-depth explanation.

I doubt turning off the TurboCache memory will increase performance. If anything, it will probably decrease it. I'm also not sure if it is possible or not.

wait so may be I got it confused? I remember reading somewhere you can turn off the ability to use system ram for GPU ram which'll increase performance I guess it is hypermemory not Nvidia's TurboCache

edit - well I just read some thread about how 7400Go can have its turbocache turned off. So does my 8600M GT have turbocache or no?

the turbo/hyper memory isn't active unless the graphics program starts dealing with more than 256 megs of ram.

even if you have 512 megs of ram (256 turbocache) your system still has priority on that 256 megs of shared ram (over your gpu)

so you don't need to turn it off.
