Hello all I have an Alienware M17x R2 I have recently alien respawned in order to clear mundane **** from computer now I have everything up and running again and I was informed of Alienware having their own gaming section to tell users what settings and other things you can tweek to maximize the performance out put of there products, but this is outrageously priced at over 110 dollars or more for a consultation from their so called "specialists" so I have decided to go to you amazing people for assistance. Any assistance would be appreciated

    Thank you,
    Nick

You are a smart man. I wonder how many people actually pay that much just to overclock...

Go through Programs & Features and remove anything that looks like bloatware, install CCleaner and set it to autorun at startup, and install an SSD (optional). It will be like you have a whole new computer, and it shouldn't lose performance over time due to clutter.

I would definitely remove software that's effectively bloatware.
Practically everything that came pre-installed on your laptop except the drivers can be removed.
Keep in mind that removing certain programs from startup is not necessarily enough.
There are programs that like to incorporate their services into the OS regardless... so if you use those programs, disable those services from starting up automatically (set them to manual) or just remove the program altogether if you are not using it.

Windows 7 has about 42 or 43 processes at startup... 45 if you count the Antivirus (that's light and efficient).

So, removing bloatware from the system and disabling programs at start-up is the way to go (and services that might have been installed from programs that aren't really needed).
There's no need to have Ccleaner autorun at startup...

Installing an SSD would effectively radically increase access times, booting of the OS and file transfers - it won't do a thing for FPS in games though (that much is down to your cpu, gpu and RAM more/less).

Interesting guide, I had pretty much already done everything else in the guide except for the "Timer Resolution", which I am going to test out now.

I am running the program now and was annoyed by it not getting trayed while minimized. I downloaded a little program called TrayIt! and now it seats neatly minimized in my tray bar :)

--Wow! I love this little program! Definitely gives the game a smoother feel and improves visual continuity. Set it to Maximum and I notice the difference very easily. The most noticeable effect I noticed is when looking from left to right, it feels more seamless and free of the very slight choppiness.

This improvement does come at a slight cost, in moments of slightly lower fps, you can get some input delay (very slight but noticeable to me). Overall it improves quality (especially if you can run a game at a constant 45+ fps) so I recommend it.

+rep for showing me the link to this guide
