I have recently installed omega drivers on my LG S1 after 3dMark05 told me that I am underperforming. Before installing the drivers I got a solid 3906. That was a disappointment not because I needed more, but simply because on LGs site they claim I can get upto 4050. After installing the drivers I got a 4196 which is GREATThe funny part is that a friend of mine has an identical LG with the exact same specs except he had better ram (2GB vs. 1GB) scored a measily 3568. Now, can anyone explain to me what went wrong with his laptop? Keeping in mind that we have the exact same laptops and I had more software on my device than him and that he had nothing running in the background.

I recommend your friend to do a fresh Windows install and to install the NEWEST drivers from their site, EXCEPT the video driver: go to www.omegadrivers.net for the Omega drivers and download the newest.
After a fresh install my notebook also scored 100 points higher at stock. So I guess your friend has to install everythin again...
If that doesnt work, go to ATI Tray Tools and check if your speeds are the same. Maybe your friend has underclocked his videocard or something.
By the way be sure to run 3dmark05 on full battery without Powerplay.

A reformat of Windows is always a good idea, especially with a mainstream notebook. I never like the way Windows is configured out of the box. It performs much better if you do it yourself.
After reformat, follow what Charlie says about getting drivers from LG; also go to Windows Update and see if it finds any updated drivers you need. Use Omega video card drivers, they are the best and most stable. The stock ATI Catalyst Mobility drivers are weird lately.

I've been saying for ages that a graphics card is directly reliant on your computers memory. Sure a graphics card has built in memory, to process information, but it is the ram that "filters" all of the temporary data. The faster/more memory you have in your system the better your graphics card can perform in intense circumstances. (It is a logistic pattern, the performance enhancement rounds off as you add an abundance of ram.)
If you want to get the most out of your graphics, get better ram. Ram is a very important upgrade in more than you think!
