I have played this game for about 2 hours to get through the tutorial. I never played the first one due to poor reviews. TW2 seems like a well above average RPG so far, IMO. Much better than anything I heard about the first game. No ground breaking graphics, but no I've come across no bugs yet either. European reviews so far are stellar.

English version is not available in NA yet, but can be bought and downloaded from Gamersgate through a backdoor listed in this thread at RPG Watch: Two Worlds II - Now on Gamersgate - RPGWatch Forums

Yeah, The first one had low ratings, but I heard this one's an epic improvement, looking into this game as well. Thanks for the link

The first one was OK, except for the rather bad balance, where archer can shoot like a machine gun.

i did not think the original two worlds got a fair review. all people did was compare it to oblivion. if i wanted a game like oblivion i would play oblivion. anyway we will see how it can stand up the second time. although now they will likely just compare it to dragon age rather then base its review on the game itself.

After playing about 5 hours now, I really like the game. It opens up well after the tutorial. Crafting is implemented very well. Magic use/spell selection is different, but original (of course I didn't play the 1st game, so maybe not), side quests so far are integrated into plot, but not totally necessary, so several options to achieve the same objective. Horseback riding is always a plus.

The whole game has a rather cinematic cutscene feel to the art style, but not crazy about the character models. It is a nice touch IMO. Not too demanding on my 8800 GTS Dragon; averaging about 38-40 with everything on high.

Combat is challenging, ability to block and time hits. Not a traditional hack and slash by any means. Have to remember to arm yourself though, transitions holster your weapon. That's kind of a bummer. In fact, lots of hotkey use required for move combos, blocks, potion use, weapon changes etc. Hard to remember them all, and I haven't found a manual yet.

I'll keep updating as I remember more, but those are things that stand out so far. I really recommend the game for anyone that likes single player (non-party) RPG's. It will be compared to Oblivion...no getting around it. Doesn't compare to DA at all in my opinion. Aside from no party, plays completely different. Although I generally prefer party based games. Anyway, that's it for now. More later, if interested.

From what I've read, TW2 is an incredible improvement.

I so want to buy it, but I have to significantly reduce my backlog. I'm holding my self to not buying any more games in 2010.

It's on my short list though.

I hear ya. Civ 5 and New Vegas sitting on the stand next to me. 2 play throughs of Civ and was gonna start Fallout, but more of a fantasy guy than post-apocalyptic, so I jumped when it was out. And a mile long pre-holiday honey-do list isn't making the wife happy.

    Hey fellow dragon tamer! ;)

I have the original Two Worlds, just got it a few months ago as a cheapie off GOG.com ($9.99) and I have enjoyed it a lot so far. I really don't think the reviews were fair. It's a lot of fun, with a really nice world, decent combat, lots of character interaction, nice graphics, and amusing dialog. If you like RPG's, then it's definitely worth playing IMHO.

As a bonus, you can play it on almost anything (within reason) -- even a G310M is enough (1366x768) -- so the dragon won't even notice you're gaming. I keep it on my thin/light 14" Asus U45JC-A1 as it's easy to pick up and play whenever I have some free time. It's a sleeper for sure. I recommend it.

    Cheers!

P.S. Oh, and it's got one of the more fun implementations of riding a horse I've ever seen in a RPG -- tons of fun. Last night I started a new game, found a bandit camp, killed them to get their horse, and went riding around adventuring wildly just having fun. It was a blast.

This truly is an overlooked gem in my opinion (the first one).

Liked the first one. But #2 isn't yet avail in the US sadly. Will try it when we are allowed.

Can one import a finished save from Two Worlds into Two Worlds II or does it require a clean start?

    I seriously doubt it!

All this talk has got me back to playing Two Worlds (the first one) and it really is a treat. I have never yet finished it. I get diverted and just come back and start over. I've got three different games going on three different laptops. Too much fun. ;)
