Today I noticed that the games for the PC I am looking most forward to, mostly are free to play, free to download games. Lighter games with an emphasis on fun.

Particularly, I am thinking about Mythos, the free Diablo-ish MMO which looks really cool, aswell as Battlefield Heroes, a stripped down BF2 made more simple and less hardware demanding with a cartoon style.
They both look great and I cant wait to download these for free and spent many hours on them.

They seem to be designed to run on a wide variaty of systems to support the masses.

So I was thinking that these kind of games, are the games that would be perfect to play on a Ultra Mobile PC.
People always tell me that does machines aint suited for gaming! Well, I dont wanna play any hardcore stuff on them that requires extreme machines, but just more lighter games, from when I am away from the desktop!

Do you think that we are facing an era where does ultra slim light and transportable laptops will be able to do some gaming on the lighter side? Stuff like Asus EEE, Macbook Air, Lenovo Ideapad and so on...

My main problem with so many laptops with dedicated cards is that they are not very mobile at all.. often the battery times sucks, and something that weighs over 4 pounds is just not comfortable to carry around in your bag/under your arm all day long.

Well it is noticable that software is adjusting to upcoming hardware. Windows has anounced that its keeping hardware requirements low for windows 7, probably in part due to the large growth of UMPCs. Maybe games will to start to buckle in sys req to reach a larger audience...

I don't think EEE and MBA are considered as UMPC

Considering your definition of an "era" it would depend. You could probably play runescape on your EEE pc. If that's the new face of gaming.

It's funny because I was just thinking about this the other day.
I came across an Anandtech article about gaming on the EEE, and it's an interesting read. Check out the gaming benchmarks as well. :)

Give it a couple more years and as IGPs become more powerful this will start to become more commonplace. Maybe a Fusion system will be the gateway to truly mobile gaming that isn't on a hand held.

In all honesty I see things such as the EEE and the new 9 incher coming out and I can't help but think them good machines for things such as emulators or older games. Something that would be decent for light hearted mobile gameplay.

I don't see this, the UMPCs of this time arn't yet geared towards any true....any serious gaming despite games getting a little more...liberal? with hardware requirements.

The Eee PC is not a UMPC, it is an MID (Mobile Internet Device). A UMPC is designed for business/professional use with increased security and more features, while the MID is designed for consumers (Internet surfing, mainly).

Well you're right Chaz, but it's still interesting to see that old games run on the EEE. :D

If you want a gaming UMPC, I guess get a handheld made for playing games, from nintendo or sony. :p
