you're right. i just tried playing CS on my MX 440 64mb and it got 60fps. that's twice as fast as my GMA900.

I have already tested the gma 950 and 420 is much better. I can play RF online max settings in 420 while my new laptop with gma 950 hanged when i set it to max settings. I will just have to deal with it for a while.
-
HI I am gonna buy a loptop. I d like to buy a macbook but its graphics card is intel gma 950. And I am usuing a toshiba qosmio which has geforce fx 5700 go grapghics card. I wonder if gma 950 is better or worse than geforce 5700 go. Do you have an idea.
Thanks for your help. -
Definitely worse. Anything not ati or nvidia is not good for gaming.

Don't cross post please. The other one has been deleted. -
sory for cross post. Thank you but is there really a big difference. Because qosmio is really heavy. Macbook is much more smaller and it has core duo processor. The only disadvantage of macbook is it has intel graphic card. Is there a huge difference or alittle. I have read their properties from their own sites but I couldnt understand since I dont have enough knowledge?
Thanks again.. -

Well, for gaming, you're going to want a Windows box, so the MacBook won't be an option unless you use the free BootCamp utility and run Windows on it. As posted, the GMA950 is abysmal for any sort of 3D; the GeForce GoFX 5700 is much, much faster, although it is outdated and doesn't stand up to newer cards when it comes to performance. I would suggest a GeForce Go7300 or ATI Radeon X1300 for any sort of gaming. All comes down to what you need - consider completing our FAQ in the What Should I Buy forum so we can give you some recommendations.

I am now confused between 2 laptops because of graphic cards, The Xi 1546 which is with Ati X1800 and Samsung M55 with Nvidia 7600 . Do you think that 7600 can run all actual games correctly ? (is ther any game which will refuse to run on it ? ) I am not a hardcore gamer, just like to play time to time (specilay AOE 2 and 3). Also is there will be any big differnce of performance in other task like video editing, video compressing etc..
Thanks for your help
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
All of the latest games will run perfectly fine on the Go7600, so no need to worry about that.
The only difference you will see between the Go7600 and the MR X1800 is in gaming/3D benchmarks, nothing more.
Remember that the Go7600 can be found in 15.4" and under notebooks, while the X1800 will force you to move to a 17". -
Thanks chaz for the confirmation
infact the one i want ot buy Smasung M55 is a 17" I am just waitng someoen to review it as i found nothing then i ll be decide at least the Graphic Card part is done
-
Thanks for breaking down all the information Chaz. Helped me sort through all the madness out there and pick a new laptop that's on its way. Turned out I didn't need a 17" monitor laptop to get good graphics.
Thanks again!! -
Anyone know of really good sites to buy videocards?
-
Nvidia 7400, I read on XPS m1210 (NBR's review) that the card is 256 (64 dedicated and shared 192) I thought it was 128/128?
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
The review is right; the Go7400 "256MB" in the XPS M1210 is in fact 64MB dedicated + 192MB shared. It has near identical performance to the 128MB + 128MB Go7400, so I would't worry about it. -
hey, nebie here, just wodering could someone tell me which card is better?
256MB ATI® Mobility™ Radeon® X1400 HyperMemory™ graphics card or
Intel® Media Accelerator 950 Graphics Up to 256MB shared graphics memory
for use in a dell Inspiron m1210 (n09x26).

May want to read Page 1. -
i have but which is in your opinion
-
I am pretty sure the X1400 is going to run ALOT better than the Intel IGP.
-
thanks for your help
-
No problem. It may cost a little more, but it will be worth it!
-
Well if you look back at the chart, the Intel is integrated and the X1400 is a dedicated. The X1400 is far better for gaming, but it comes at a additional cost
Edit: outta synch. Watching a film here and took too long to hit 'post'
-
Cool, I actually found an article which include integrated graphics such as the nVidia 6100. Hehe, my graphics card beats all other current integrated graphics cards (except 6150). Makes me feel a bit better about having this IGP graphics card.
-
I registered with this site after reading your article. Just so I could say thanks, I've been looking for a review like this for 2 days.
Nice Job Chaz. -

Thanks for the compliments on the guide everyone.
If anyone has any suggestions or stuff they want to see added, post them and I'll see what I can do.

Another great link for information on all types of graphic cards. Thanks again for the valuable info Chaz!

I am back agin with an othr question, finlay I am lookin,g to buy a MSI (MS-171544, in france ref : MSI L745-B2 ) but this one is equiped with a 7600 GS, and on siome french forum 1 person is saying that benchmark of this card is same as his old graphic card 6600GT and he is saying that i will not been able to play games like Oblivion, NeverwinterNights 2, Assassin's Creed, etc he says even with low detail it is **** result liek 15fps. Is it true or this guy ius just dreaming ?
Please confirm as when i see the list of laptop the most are with 7600 so I am surprised if this card dont let play all these games
Thanks for your help
-
the 7900gs will play oblivion fine. not everything maxed (mostly maxed though)
-
Notebook Solutions Company Representative NBR Reviewer
7900GS can play Oblivion at 1440*900 with AF and HDR on. Overclocking the card will give you a real boost, but you will need a good cooler.

Oups sorry i made a mistake i wanted to say 7600 GS (not 7900 i edited my post)
Can you give advise ?
Also is Ati X 1600 same pref as Nvidia 7600 ? -

Hey Chaz,
I just got a new laptop, not a new one though. A Dell X1 with ULV 1.1 GHz, 512 MB and 60 GB. It has a shared 64 MB 915 videocard.
The problem is: I want to play a game named Mig-29 Fulcrum. I have bought this game for 5 euro's here in a store, very cool flight simulator. I also have installed it on my notebook, but when I travel I dont bring my external CD/DVD player with me. This model doesnt have an integrated cd-player. So everytime I start the game it says I must insert my disc.
I dont know if this is allowed on your site but do you guys know a trick to solve this problem. I would like to play this game in the train, but I dont want to walk around with an external DVD-player.
If you want proof that I have bought this game, I can send some pictures of the game with my notebook. I think that will the best evidence
Charlie
EDIT: I have made a picture with my phone as proof that I have bought the game. Take a look at the attachments.Attached Files:

I'm not that well versed on the legality of using . . means so you don't have to use a CD to play the game, so I am going to defer this question to another poster. -
Notebook Solutions Company Representative NBR Reviewer
Ok thanks Chaz, but I think I have proven that I own the game. So if someone could help me with a No-CD crack or something.
Thanks in advance,
Charlie

I'm not gonna talk about this case at all!
Generally speaking, when you need some information you can try to find it with Google, in the most of the cases I'm sure that you will find your solution, generally speaking. -
Notebook Solutions Company Representative NBR Reviewer
Dreamer I have searched Google and every website to solve my problem but I couldnt find it. If I would have find it, I wouldnt post it.
Charlie

Just Google "nocd crack mig-29 fulcrum" What does it have to do with mobile graphics cards anyway?
-

Excuse me for posting it in this forum, but this is usually the best way of contacting Chaz
For the 1000st time: I have searched whole Google and every site but I cannot find anything!!! I tried www.gamecopyworld.com and every other possible site. I usually buy games and dont download them, so will someone please help me.
Charlie (which is despered this time)

Can I switch the Go 7400 in my Dell M1210 to something with more kick like a Go 7600? I like gaming while on the road on in the air. Any issues with compatibility or heat?...or warranty?
Thanks, -

Hello forum members,
First of all I want to excuse myself. I have made a few big mistakes, and I am sorry for that.
1. I posted my question at the wrong place. I should have opened a new thread.
2. I should have PM'ed Chaz about this question.
I hope you guys forgive me

Sorry about crossing posts. I guess I'm new to this!

This is a really nice post. I've read as many of the replies as I can, but I still have a few questions:
I don't game at all, so I think I can get away with integrated graphics. you mentioned on Page 1 that integrated is better for battery life and heat. is the difference significant, and is there any quantitative info about that?
it looks like i have to get an AMD-based laptop in order to get an nVIDIA IGP. will that kill any gains in battery life? (put another way, will an intel processor w/ a dedicated video card still have better battery life?)
i will use my laptop to play DVDs and AVIs on my screen and on my TV. I also would like to be able to use the VGA output w/ a much bigger and higher resolution LCD (and possibly use dual-monitors: laptop + external). will integrated graphics be ok for that, or should i just go for a low-end card? -
Notebook Solutions Company Representative NBR Reviewer
Hey illinifan,
If you are not a gamer, go for the integrated solution. It can save up to 45 minutes of battery life and a lot in heat.
Using the VGA output shouldnt be a problem with the integrated graphics, it supports high resolutions.
If you want the best battery life go for Intel. AMD's are not as efficient as Intel when it comes to bettery life.
Charlie
-
Thanks, Hitman.
just to make sure I understand correctly: even the Intel Integrated graphics are good enough for video output and external monitor output at high-res?
I am hesitant about this issue because I have a friend in the video card industry who said i might want to get a low-end card to be safe. also, will integrated graphics still be good enough if i get a bad CPU (e.g. celeron)?
speaking of celeron, does it have same great battery life as pentium m and dual core? (sorry to get slightly off topic)
thanks again. -
Notebook Solutions Company Representative NBR Reviewer
No problemo illinifan.
Just for you I used my Dell to check if I were right. I can set the second monitor to a resolution of 1920*1200 while my own monitor stays 1280*768. So I guess that isn't a big problem. If you are getting an X200M, or 945GM you won't have to worry at all.
Celeron usually has less battery life then Centrino, because it doesnt have the feature Intel Speedstep. It does not underclock it's CPU, so battery life isnt as good. Dual Core's are not very efficient compared to Sonoma.

Hi this a great forum
I just have a quick question
I am looking to get a laptop a Compaq Presario with
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
1gig 333mhz ram
100gig hdd
and ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M with 128mb dedicated memory
how does the compare mainly the video card to a
Pentium M 1.4ghz
512mb
ATI Mobility Radeon 9200
40gig hdd
HDD and ram is obvious but how about the video card? Im looking to play current games but nothing like Doom or Fear or anything like that.
What is the Radeon 200M with 128mb dedicated as a card? -
Notebook Solutions Company Representative NBR Reviewer
That is a nice Compaq rizzle. I think the X200M is better then the 9200 Radeon, because your setup has around 700 3dmark05 points while the 9200 has round 500-600 I think.
So the Compaq if faster without any doubt. I do not think you can play the current games like Oblivion on that thing though. You can play Battlefield 2, but at very low settings. FEAR is also possible, one forum member had a post about the X200M running FEAR.
If your Compaq is a good deal, go for it.
