No idea where to put this but I think I've been hacked. I was playing Quake 3, online multiplayer. Someone told me to type in /exec bunchy (bunchy was the name of a player I was playing with), it was supposed to speed up my charcter. I typed it in the console. Then my player couldn't move or do anything. Also, my name was Mr. Bunchyman, the name of the player I was with.
I freaked out and quit out of Quake 3, after trying to get help there unsuccessfully. I've tried running virus scans three times, but it fails and comes up with "Internal Error".
I dont know whats going on if this is a hack or what and what hacks can do and if hacks can come off Quake 3 or what ever. I need help urgently fast to anyone viewing this message.

so what is wrong with ur computer
-
calm the **** down, so what if someone hacked you in a game....they cant screw your sytem up through that
-
how is that
-
OK your 1st problem is you have Vista. Get rid of that and install XP then install your Apps you will be fine.
-
what happens in the game stays in the game unless that dude sent you a file which you so readily accepted and saved to your hardrive nothing wrong can happen to your pc.
-
your posts are minutes apart and you expect ppl to reply that quick?!
First of all you typed in a command, you ddint download something, so not likely a virus or whatever
secondly the command you typed, have you tried that before? /exec sounds a lot like execute or terminate
reinstall your virus scanner and run it again
do you have a firewall? i suggest you get one, windows firewall is alright though, maybe for now configure it to block quake3 if you think it might be related
you can also use online virus scanners and other various online tools
dont think u been hacked mate, just sounds like a computer problem -
-
that was probably the most self-centered, most pathetic, and most asinine series of posts yet.
-
As stated, unless you readily accepted a file and then did this then it should be confined to the game.
-
-
This is a joke.
-
Wow, everyone would be more inclined to help you if you haven't proven to us that you are such an ass. Good luck with your problem, hope your PC blows up.

I'm not a gamer so I don't know what can or can not be done by hacking through a game.
I agree the OP has been a little unreasonable in expecting someone who knows the answer to be awake and on-line. This is a time of day when a lot of people are either asleep (North America) or at work (Europe / Asia).
If you are worried about someone getting a backdoor into your computer then pull out the network cable. If you don't have a router between your computer and the cable modem then get one because it functions as a basic hardware firewall, otherwise you are leaving the door open.

I really feel my advice would solve the problem.

The Solution is simple PWHDavey
Unplug your laptop, take off the battery, wrap it all up in the container it came in, take/send it back to the store, buy an etch-a-sketch and no-one will be able to hack you ever again! -
First of all, get a life... -
if you bought something brand new and you thought you had something wrong with it im sure you would be freaking out if you didnt know what it was either.
