I know headsets would normally belong in the Accessories forum, but I need the expertise of gamers on this one.

So I'm using an XPS 1530 laptop and it's not all the high end, but I made the mistake of treating it like it was one. I got a Razer HP-1 Barracuda headset recently, and it's too much for my soundcard to handle-- it picks up minute details (I actually hear ing dogs before they bite my ankle in Fallout 3), but it gets cackly when there's a lot of things going on... sometimes even when there isn't.

I realize that I should be doing moderate gaming equipment, since this computer (at least with my specs, which I'm working on changing... CPU ain't so great) is a moderate gaming machine. I need to get some advisement on what are some of the better models of gaming headsets (your basic microphone and comfy headphones... preferably comfy anyway) without getting too expensive ($100 +/- $20) and PREFERABLY BEING A USB HEADSET. My gaming environment is crowded enough as it is.

    Any advice?

EXTRA CREDIT: If you know of any that Best Buy specifically carries, that would be great, because they'll probably only give me store credit when I return the Barracuda.

I just decided on that exact headset.

Do you think getting a Creative soundcard (Xi-Fi or... whatever it's called, it's on their site) is a sound investment anyway? If I get it, will it make the Barracuda stable?

I suggest you get the Sennheiser HD 555's from all the positive reviews ive read about them.

They are VERY good for gaming, "Godlike" for music and amazing for movies.

If your a gamer, i've read that you shouldnt buy headsets from cheap mousepad companies who pay professional gamers to wear their stuff.

an example would be : Steelseries paying Danny "fRoD" montaner to wear the Steelseries 5vh2.

They arent THAT expensive...around 100$ u can get them in the US. In Canada its a bit more pricy tho..

I ordered mine for about 170$ from Dell.ca (i noe its a rip lol :\
