Look at these stats: http://archive.gamespy.com/stats/
-
you will see it increase over time once more community mods/modes are developed like invasion. Also, people need a bit better computers to run it. We just gotta let it run it's course.
Edit: I actually bought the game right when it came out which was a big mistake. Comp cant run it that great, and invasion isn't developed yet. -
What the?? Where's TF2 or CS?
And is HL1 still that popular
?
-
I bet Half-Life 1 isn't that popular but its mods are. I believe the stats uses Half-Life 1 to generalize all games that uses that particular source engine build, in this case it includes CS as well.
-
I think those are included in the half life 2 category...

Hahaha. That is so sad. Poor UT3. Glad to see BF2 still holding strong.
-
Well, for us ut2k4 fans, ut3 was something of a disappointment, so we just went back to ut2k4. Ut3 has better graphics, but in terms of gameplay, it honestly isn't as good
But wow, why is NWN2 at the bottom of the list??
-
I really doubt we are going to see an increase over time. The numbers are way too low. You need a lot of people interested in a game to have a healthy mod community.
Several months after release, UT2004 had a much stronger mod community that UT3 does now.
XPS1330, to see stats for games like TF2 and CSS just click on half life 2. -
Most reviews suggested that the gameplay was pretty solid, but it just didn't offer anything new. Same boring gameplay modes that every other FPS offers. There is simply no reason, other than graphics, to play UT3.
NWN2 MP never really took off like NWN1. It is harder to program modules for NWN2. -
Man that's really sad because UT3 is a great game. I just beat campaign mode and want to get some online frags in.
-
its not there because people are trying to play them on thier Geforce 4, yes sir! thats the reality, not anyone have a dualcore processor or a Geforce 6 and above cards.
-
It's because it's a mediocre game that was done much better a few years earlier, and gameplay trumps eyecandy.
-
What is flight simulator 2006???

The UT3 servers I play at seem to be full all the time, but I also see a lot of the same player names.
UT3 is definitely very hardware-intensive. I had to upgrade from an XPS M1710 w/ an nVidia 7900m-GTX to an XPS M1730 w/ 8800m-GTX SLI to run UT3 acceptably at 1920x1200 native resolution. In terms of gameplay, I find that UT3 moves much faster than UT2k4 given that orbs can instant-capture nodes. The vehicles are also much better done in UT3, and the hoverboards are awesome at crossing huge maps when vehicles are unavailable.
UT3's biggest weakness is the inability to install new maps on the fly like UT2k4. As a result, UT3 players are pretty much stuck with the default maps unless they install prepackaged map-packs. Even so, not every player will know where to get these map packs, so servers running new map packs are often devoid of player traffic. -
Lol. "21. Halo Demo 375 servers, 1555 players "
Halo keeps pwning. That game is 7 years and and people still play the demo like this? Holy crap. Also nice to see Jedi Accademy still kicking it
As far as UT3 - Don't really agree with what is being said here. I think UT3 is superior to UT2K4 in many ways. First of all I hate the guns in UT2K4. They don't pack a punch at all, and they look like circus preps. UT3 has many cool aditions. -
A few full servers isn't unexpected. At peak times there might be near 1000 players online. However you have to put that in perspective. At any given time, UT2004 will have at least 4x that number.

I was quite the hardcore UT/2k3/2k4 player and UT3 really disappointed me. The graphics are great, don't get me wrong, but it appears that graphics overtook the gameplay.
Maps are more cluttered with meshes which ruins flow. Additionally, a high point in the UT series, color in the game is very bland and grey. It's very similar to Gears of War, which is nice, but it is not UT's style. Previous UT maps have vibrant colors and great flow to the maps (DM_Compressed).
It's a good game if you're not crazy about the series, but I fully understand why hardcore players stick to previous versions. -

Wow people play the Halo Demo? I didn't think it was a good console > pc port myself.
Haha I played Jedi Academy a couple of months ago. Good times... -
The one that throws me for a loop is this:
I know the servers hold a lot of players, but 1939 players on 6 servers stretches belief a tad. -
Yea, there is something wrong with that statistic. The other stats look accurate though. You can look up stats for valve's games on the Steam homepage.
-
I gotta give UT2004 a try then!
-
I'm kinda wondered by the flop of UT3 has become. I used to play the UT3 multiplayer demo and i really really liked it. COD4 and UT3 came out together chose COD4 because i already played the UT3 demo for 20 hours
-
Once my pre-ordered Sager NP5796 arrives I should be playing UT3 a lot more.
But I will admit I do regret buying UT3 at release for $50 rather than now for $30 b/c I have barely played it at all. -
Its about 8PM central time where I am, and the stats for UT3 read:
39. Unreal Tournament 3 (PC)
733 servers, 237 players
Meanwhile, UT2004 is doing quite well:
7. Unreal Tournament 2004
1325 servers, 3459 players -
Well, I enjoyed the game, but sadly, it requires a beastly CPU to max out. I run it at 1440x900, maxed, but with my T5550, it only gets around 30FPS.

I can tell you why it flopped.
Graphics aren't a huge deal, the game scales down better than any other UE3 game.
It flopped because we've been playing this same freaking game for close to a decade now, and all they changed was the aesthetic - for the worse.
Also, remember the mountain of content UT2k4 ships with? UT3 is pitiful in comparison. It's a step BACK. -
I played all of them, I'm a huge fan of the series, and I would not say that I'm disappointed with UT3. But that's my opinion.
Jedi Knight brings back a lot of memories.....
Amazing game!
I agree. Even thought it's a fun game and they have added extras here and there, the formula hasn't changed at all. UT3 is a point and frag type of game where COD4 reqires a little bit more strategy, and that I think that is what people are looking for now. -

Funny this thread pops up when I just bought the game today. It was a good deal tho 25$ shipped for a brand new collectors edition. I have been looking for new games to play on my new desktop and UT3 is pretty good, while graphics are no replacement for game play its nice to see this game maxed out while playing UT2004 on my new computer would feel oldish.
Im still hunting for a cheap copy of COD4 as thats the other game I really like and has good graphics, and maybe Crysis. -
I saw the game for $9.99 used at EB Games today, was debating picking it up....but then I remembered how bad the demo was
-
EB Games doesn't sell used PC Titles anymore. It's against company policy. That, along with the fact that Gamestop bought EB Games in '05.
-
I myself have been surprised by the lack of popularity of UT3. Sure, among younger gamers and console gamers I didnt expect it to rival COD4 or anything but still.
But I must say that I'm not sure whether i trust these numbers. I heard people complain about UT3 and that there werent enough people online .... but less than 155 people....? nah that cant be right. That would mean I know 5% of its worldwide playerbase!
Or am I interpreting these numbers wrong? -
The unreal games are based off of custom maps made by enthusiasts. Until a sufficient amount are made and showing up I dont think it will get too big.
-
thats not its player base, just the amount of people playing it at one given time.
I bought this game at release and was impressed by the graphics, even my mobile 7800gtx could handel it very well. The gameplay was great too, more frantic then ut 2004 imo. I was disapointed by warfare, they basicly lied about what it was going to be, the maps aren't 3 times an onslaught map, and it never felt like the assult mode was integrated into the game. There also weren't too many maps. I liked the game play, but i just never really played it much after the first week or so. I'm not sure why i dont like it as much. -
I agree that the UT3's darker texturing and lack of map variety is really crippling its popularity. If they can fix UT3's map downloads, then I can see UT3 popularity going up again. At the moment I keep seeing the same warfare maps repeatedly every time I play (Torlan, FloodGate, DownTown, Serenity, Tank Crossing, Dusk, PowerSurge, etc.). UT3 vehicles are much better, but UT2k4 map variety was far superior.
-
Who likes making pancakes in UT3? Anyone? LOL
-
I bought the game, haven't installed it yet and by reading the comments will probably sell it to some poor fellow or end up giving it away to a mate for free.
By looking at the screens, its too dark, I bet you cant even see whats going on in certain maps. I hate this direction with games, everything has to be different shades of grey. Gears of War pulled it off nicely, but UT3 fails at it. -
Actually, UT3 is not that dark and you can see everything fine.
-
this is why they invented brightness and contrast settings on monitors.
-
LOL, that's a good one!
-
lol, insert laugh (little space) here
Even with the contrast / brightness ratios it still looks dark, and even more washed out. -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
I have not played all of the levels but its plenty bright for me, has alot to do with the settings in game I bet and of course your monitor. I hear levels is one of the main problems with the game, UT2004 had a TON of them an a very active map community while this game still pretty much uses only the stock map cycle because not many player made maps are out there and they take a long time to download via in game server.
-
actually i thought the maps were really vivid with color. I didn't tweak the contrast or anything...
-
I know, its sooo much easier to do in this version, so much fun.
-
There are still more than 100,000 thousand people playing the original CS. HOLY CRAP.
I think that COD4 may be the only game to this day that has caught my interest like CS did. Maybe I'll have to sign into my steam account and download a copy of CS and go pwn some noobs on dust. -
UT3 texturing is darker than UT2k4, but yes, everything is pretty easy to see, especially if your video system can handle 1920x1200 full settings. Furthermore, players and vehicles have bright red or blue colors depending on your team (very halo'ish in appearance).
-
That doesn't surprise me. The majority of servers are probably chinese.
-
That would be a shame. Don't let the old school fan boys put you off. Although it doesn't have a very compelling campaign, it makes for a fast loading, smooth running quick-into-the action shoot fest, ideal for killing short amounts of time when you're on the go, and perfect for a laptop with a spec similar to yours. I run it at max res (1440 x 900) on my G1S (8600M GT) with everything maxed, and it runs nicely. I'd even say it complements the laptop, made even better by the fact that after installing, you don't need the Disc at all, not even to play single player ! - It's something I go back to time and time again for a quick shootfest, and end up spending longer on it than I intended to.
Edit: I've never had any visual issues with UT3, but if you feel you have contrast or washout issues with any games, you need to wind in a bit of Digital Vibrance courtesy of our friend NVidia. -
Thanks for the post. I will give it a try when invasion mod comes out, that mod rocked with the older UT's
-
See, it's info like this that throws me off. You must have a beastly CPU, because at 1440x900, I can only get about 35FPS max, average 30FPS, and the 8800m GTS is twice the power of the 8600m GT. I do feel like my CPU is beginning to cripple me...
-
Agreed. But it is nowhere as dark as some others say it is.
UT3 = total failure.
