Now, I mainly play UT3 in my laptop, where I have no problems. I've installed it on my desktop too, which has a more powerful GPU and that's why I prefer it more than my laptop. It's with a Windows XP Professional, btw. I haven't played it there from a while and now when I start it it crashes with a "UT3.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" error just after it switches the resolution (it's noticeable - the screen goes completely black, like there's no signal and stuff...). I reinstalled the game and the video drivers - nothing worked. The "Lauch" log in "My Documents > My Games > Unreal Tournament 3 > UTGame > Logs" said that it's a problem with DirectX*something*.gpl. Figured it's a problem with the DirectX, so I downloaded the DirectX 9.0c setup from Microsoft's site, but it won't install, cause it says there's no need to (it just doesn't install it and shows me the "Installation Complete" dialog). So my question obviously is how can I fix this?

Is there a "repair install" function on the UT3 disk? If so, try that. If not, backup your save game files and uninstall/reinstall.

Oh, I forgot to mention the UT3 is tied up with my Steam account. And I already reinstalled it from there - didn't work.

Open the run prompt (Win + R) and type in "dxdiag" and look through the tabs. Does it report any errors?

UT3 rocks. I play it on my laptop too. Do you have the latest patch 2.1?

Completed the tests with no problems.
Steam keeps the game updated automatically.

Dang, I hate it when a game, which doesn't work "repairs" itself somehow. Half an hour ago I tried to start it again, because I accidentally deleted the Launch.log file, and wanted to let the game create another one, so I can give you guys more information and SURPRISE!!! - it launched successfully. I even completed an "instant deathmatch" with some bots with 150 kills, until I noticed there's no sound. I mean it had sound when it displayed the ads in the beginning but now - nada. When I entered the sound settings I saw that OpenAL was disabled, so I enabled it, restarted the game and now I can play with no problems whatsoever. So my question is was OpenAL the problem in the first place? I even verified the game cache in Steam's right click > properties menu. Weird stuff...

Hahaha Yeah I know what you mean with This game...I have had so many problems with it and Always have to load the game to see if it works and it frikin takes forever.

By problems, I mean mostly with trying to figure out how to save the game in single player with no internet connection, which I have given up on totally. Its rediculous that it wont save, but w/e I really dont care because the story mode is just a bunch of different maps.

    Cheers
