Hey guys... I have an HP DV2500 with an 8400GS 64mb and I am a huge fan of the original Unreal Tournament. For some reason the game-play is really really slow. It's not choppy, just unbelievably slow. I have tried all sorts of different drivers and renders, all no go. Any ideas?

I have heard it's an issue with the dual-core processors, but even when I set the affinity to 1 core, it doesn't help. I have tried running it in XP/NT compatibility mode, also to no avail.

Any help would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

hmm. I run it fine on my dual core. Have you downloaded the patches (436, 451)? Also, was it running fine before hand?

Edit:I know prettymuch everything there is about ut99, lol. My first FPS, i've been playing it since it came out. The only servers left are mostly camping and insta-gib, but i love camping, so its awesome!

Ok, this Thread will explain it all

basically, you need to have atleast patch 436. You need to enable v-sync, and you need to disable processor-speed step. The thread explains how. "easist way is to turn your power configuration to Always On"

I do have the 436 patch and I have tried enabling vsync in the Nvidia control panel and in UT itself... still no go.
I also had tried setting the line in the UT execution file to 2.0ghz, also no go. And I always play using the "max performance" vista power profile... lol.

    Any other ideas?

Also, I am part of a UT99 sniper clan... www.clan-rsc.com
Check us out... we have great forums.. fun place to chill out and have fun.. :)

    Thanks for the help.

Yea, i would say, try turning v-sync off, and then go to power settings, and make sure the configuration is set to always on (right click desktop>screensaver>power>always on.)

also...vista power profile? I thought you said you were running xp in your first post?

Hmm. Very confusing. You said you tried setting the command counsol to CPUSPEED=2000MHZ or w/e?

I don't know much about vista. All i can really say, is look though that thread i linked to, cause theres alot of stuff to try in there.

    Here are some other reccomendations

Try changing resolution; run in window'd mode

try running with OpenGL ( read the last post on that thread i linked to)

try changing the desired frame rate

post on your own forum(i assume you probably did) and see if anyon else has a fix. :)

I had this problem as well with Go7400 and 8600GT - it seems to plague nVidia mobile cards for some unexplainable reason, as I didn't have the same problem on desktop nVidia cards nor on desktop or mobile Ati hardware.

I ran in software mode eventually, looks like crap but runs OK. Interesting, the game doesn't continuously run slow, but runs fine one minute and then slow the next - and slow as in slow motion, not a low frame rate.

I tried every fix, but never had any joy, so gave up trying to use d3d or gl renderer.

Solved SloMO and Fast issue, for me anyhow.

    Model: Asus F8SV (Core2Duo)
    GPU: 8600gt
    nvidia driver: 174.93
    OS: WinXP Sp2

    UT:GOY Editition Patch 436
    D3D
All ini files are default, no mods to ini files or nvidia settings.

    Solution(again for me):
    'Right-click' UnrealTournament.exe (or shortcut)
    Select 'Compatibility' tab
    Check 'Run this program....' box
Choose Compatibility Mode: 'Windows 98/ Windows ME'
leave all other check boxes unchecked.

Ran this both in single player and connecting to a lan UT server.

Again, all stock UT install on 436 patch.
