haha that's strange, it's almost the same deal Steam had a couple weeks ago.

I understand not cross posting, but things like this probably belong in both places. I'd rather not wade through dozens of other bargains that aren't gaming related.

I want to buy Assassin's Creed, but I want to know how this works...are these standalone games, or do they work with Steam?

No they're not Steam, they are standalone. Download, install, copy the key that comes with it to activate it, and you play. I've bought a few games from them without hassle: Far Cry, Call of Duty box set, Beyond Good and Evil, etc... haven't really had any problems with them. They're part of the whole IGN/Gamespy chain.

Steam and Direct2Drive are both very good. I'm beginning to prefer D2D though because you can download the game, keep the key, and they don't deactivate your whole account if you are found guilty of a "fake" key or "purchase". With Steam you lose everything you ever bought from them.

Steam had a similar deal a week or more back. If you've been on the fence about a few of these games, now is the time to scoop them up!

I agree. I don't plan on moving this thread unless there is a huge outcry of some sort :)

Yeah I put this deal here because its both gaming and software :)
If you do get a game off D2D you should definitely get their download manager...its much faster than dl-ing the zip file! Asassin's Creed file is 5.93 GB!!

You can burn it, make a copy to your backup hard drive, put it on floppy disks. Whatever you choose!

I noticed that the Silent Hunter game lists a DRM (Securom), so I guess it is safe to assume it downloads with the game? It isn't listed on any of the other games, does anyone know, for certain, that it isn't included on those as well?

    Thanks!
