I've gotten this a few times while playing games. My screen suddenly just freezes, and then it starts flickering...on...off...on...off, and the only way to fix it is to restart my computer. It happened twice when playing COD4 with my clocks overclocked to 580/875, another time when playing CS:S at 475/700, which is the stock clock for my GPU.

does it flash at a very quick rate?
-
Mmm...quite. I'd estimate at about 5 times a second or more.
-
Its the drivers.. if you let it keep doing it for a while it will BSOD and give you a nvkddl.sys error
It happened to me when using 174.12 or was it 174.32. It happened once every week and it was very random. (eg. i minimized WMP and it freaked out) -
Definately NVidia Drivers - their laptop ones seem a bit useless. I've had one or two machines do it, usually they bring up a message from the taskbar saying the driver crashed and had to be restarted or something similar. Assuming you're running Vista?

You're using Vista or XP on your Mac? Sorry if I asked because I'm too sure about Macs still.
-
Mmm...alright, thanks a lot. I just updated to 175.80 drivers, so let's hope that these work better.
And yea, I'm running Windows Vista Business on my MBP. Was previously using XP Professional but I kept disconnecting from my school's wireless, so I swapped to Vista. Say, you're the same guy from hardwarezone.com right? -

Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
I've been getting that randomly on my desktop with the last several 174/175 releases, dropping my OC on the vid card a little bit has significantly reduced the occurence.

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Its you gpu clocking itself down because it is clocked too high and probably overheating.

I dunno, mine almost always happens on the desktop with no extensive use of the gpu. It never happend with the 169 driver set.

I also had this issue with my Macbook Pro running BootCamp Vista. Updating drivers fixed the issue, seems like the problem drivers were 174.xx
Umm...what does this mean?
