Hi I work in a laptop shop and i jst recently ran 3D Mark 2005 on a Toshiba Qosmio F30 that has a Geforce 7600 128mb and it scored 3700 marks!! Is it my imagination or is that very very high for a 7600 with jst 128mb!?? as i expected it to jst score around 3000-3200.. Thats score comes close to the X1600 256mb! and wipes the floor with the X1600 128mb!!

Can anyone clarify the situation as im amazed how well the laptop performed!

That sounds about right. I don't think it makes a huge difference in 3dmark05 between 128 & 256mb of ram. My Go7600 with 256mb scores about 3900.

But iv seen ATI X1600's with 256mb score worse! And especially X1600 128's!!
Im wondering does it have something to do with the Qosmios extra software/drivers..(Qosmio Engine).. not sure though

Different manufacturers clock their cards different to other manu's. Looks like Toshiba have just clocked their 7600's well.

I think that's the same laptop we sell at work, and it's the most god awful, ugly laptop I've ever laid eyes on...

Yet, it scores better in 3DMark2005 than mine does in 3DMark2003. :)

Yes it does make a difference, most (99% of 7600/x1600) score from ~2600-3000 stock. While the 256mb versions of those cards score from as low as ~3500 to as high as ~4200 stock.

I sure hope you know a 128mb x1600 and 7600 are EXACTLY the same in game performance (most say the x1600 is slightly stronger, But I think its hearsay). You may have a freak laptop as I score around 3k on my x1600 128mb. What cpu do you have in it? As that has an effect on 3dmark scores.

What clocks is the card running at?

It has a Dual Core 2300 1.66/ 1GB DDR2 Ram which is what most laptops with the 7600/X1600 have.. I had a "quick" look at the core/memory clock speeds and they seemed normal (around 400Mhz) but il have to check to be sure.. What should a Stock 7600 be running at anyway?? coz then i can check if Toshiba overclocked it...

You say that most 7600/X1600's 128's score around 2800-3200.. But how can this one score so high?? There a loads of laptops in my shop that i ran 3D Mark 05 on and one was an ASUS A6 with a X1600 128 that only scored 3180.. I watched each laptop as the tests were being preformed and the Qosmio with the 7600 128mb was much smoother!
And YES i know that the performance of the X1600/7600 are identical and some people argue that either one or the other is slightly better... BUT my question was HOW can a 7600 128mb in this machine get such a HIGH mark and run so smoothly in the tests compared to equivelent models with the same Gpus??
The Qosmios are serious machines that weigh 4kg.s and are suppose to have ALOT of extra performance enhancing software/hardware fitted (Qosmio 3D Engine) and other stuff i cant remember and i am wondering whether they are such finly tuned machines (and very expensive) that the gaming performance is enhanced?....

To be perfectly honest I cant tell you. If that truely is a 128mb version then you need to buy that model, as it is a diamond in the rough. Like I said my 128mb x1600 scores ~3000, so an increase of 700 is actually something to be proud of. If your in the market buy this laptop; but do test another one of those same models to compare. Cause as stated toshiba may have just clocked the card well, meaning more gains can be had.

Well im actually jut after ordering a different type of laptop from Toshiba 2day!.. The Satellite Pro P100 which has a Core Duo T2400 and a Geforce 7600 256mb!!.. And its 100euro cheaper than the Qosmio F30 15 inch iv been telling you about.. I would have definately got the Qosmio only for the fact that it has the T2300 and 7600 128mb.. I know that its probably the best performing 7600 128mb out there.but its still only 128mb!.. Even if the 256 7600 in the P100 only gets the same score as the Qosmio with the 128mb 7600, id still prefere it as the 256mb which will count in the future..

But just for your interest..you should check out the scpecs for the Qosmios on the Toshiba website.. They are ABSOLUTE BEASTS!!.. Especially the expensive yet great 17 inch G30!!

Maybe its modded like the ASUS Lamborghini GeForce Go 7400 which gets over 3200 in 3dmark05

How the hell does that crappy card get over 3200!???? My god what do they do to it!?? It couldnt be simply overclocking as there would be artificating.. Why do they bother to put in a 7400 heavily modified and not just put in a 7600 or something?? To keep the weight and power/heat to a min?? I had a look at one of those Lambo's and they are extremely light and thin for a 15inch!..

And by the way il check the clock speeds on the Qosmio iv been talkin about 2moro in work...

if you have newer drivers and clock/overclock the card well then there wont be any artifacting. Im sure they also have other tweaks they do to help the card perform better.

I have a Qosmio F30 myself and i just did a review on notebookforums.

Mine has a GeForce Go 7600 256MB and i ran 3dmark05 on stock drivers without tweaking or overclocking and i got a score of 4031! That's insane i guess?

I used the freeware version of 3dmark05, maybe it has something to do with that?
