    I have an i9300, 2.0ghz M, 1gig ram, 6800, 80gb 5,400 rpm hd.
After a few installation issues, i got the game running and I was unable to put the game on high settings. I maxed out everything, which I was told I could do easily with these stats. There was choppiness in the beginning(typical) however it didn't stop and it just got worse when I got near battle scenes. Also, the maximum resolution I can go up to is 1024 by 768 when my maximum resolution is 1440 by 900? Is there any way to add this resolution setting? Thanks

BF2 doesn't support widescreen, first of all. You can force it by adding something to the command (+szx 1440 +szy 900 i think).

Right click on your BF2 icon and click on properties. Where it says target add the following: +szx 1440 +szy 900

    It should look something like this: "D:\Battlefield 2 Demo\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1440 +szy 900

Battlefield is a very demanding and unoptimized game. I really runs great with 2 Gb of memory.

sounds like you don't have your video driver installed. try (re-) installing it.

set audio driver in the BF2 settings from software to hardware, and leave the setting on low

    no, max res is 1024x768

high graphics is high graphics, you dont have a 7200 rpm hard drive so don't expect too much, but the card can definitely take the beating, as well as the ram. i usually play it on medium everything, no shadows, high textures

your problem is the sound, my roomate had that problem as well with his desktop. software sound takes juice from the cpu, and bf2 is cpu intensive, it takes ALOT of cpu to run it

You can also get a custom resolution - google to see how, it's pretty simple.

Turn off Anti-ailasing (AA), that will help.

The Go6800 shouldn't have any problems running that game at maximum settings. I run BF2 on my 256MB X700 at maximum, 1400x1050 resolution. No problems. ;)

And, CyBorG made a good suggestion with the sound settings. There are issues with a lot of games with software/hardware sound.

EDIT: Sanca, do not create more than one thread. I merged your two together.

Ok 2 things, how did u get ur game to run on 1400 by 1050, why can't i run it on high? i dont get it. if an x700 can than so should a 6800 go. This is strange. oh and why turn of AA? Anti-Aliasing makes it crisper and straightens the lines, why turn it off?

Because it brings down the performance a lot. No wonder you are having trouble.

Turn off the AA and update your video drivers.

Not sure why you can't get a higher resolution, but you can't use 1400x1050. That's out of your screen's resolution.

Even though the Go6800 is powerful, you still have to work with it.

Where can I get the best and latest drivers, and how can i run bf2 with higher resolution that 1024 by 768. My comp can go up to 1440 by 900. I tried changing the target in bf2 properties but it didnt work. Maybe im doing it wrong. wont turning off AA make the graphics look worse.

Your screen's native resolutions is 1440x900...a widescreen resolution.

BF2 doesn't really support widescreen. If you look on BF2 sites, they'll tell you how to edit it to force a specific resolution at launch, including widescreen, but that can sometimes cause all types of distortion problems...since the game does NOT support widescreen(stretching, pixellation, HUD components in odd places, etc...you can try it, but it doesn't work well for everyone).

The highest regular resolution option you get is 1024x768. So 1200x900 should be the highest resolution you get, as your screen supports 1440x900.

I'd guess you have an issue with your video card driver, personally. My x700 with an ATI Omega driver allows me to choose 1200x900 on my laptop(native resolution is 1440x900 on my Gateway). I don't run that high cause my card's only 64MB, though.

The max resolution for BF2 is not 1024x768 -- I run it on my desktop at 1280x1024 without forcing it...

I'm sure it'll do at least 1600x1200...probably higher...but that doesn't matter. His laptop screen only supports 1440x900, so 1200x900 is the highest option he should get...but he should get higher than 1024x768.

That's why I think his video card driver is screwed up.

Its a brand new computer, so i dont think anything is messed up, however maybe i just need a better driver. In the video section of options i dont even have the option of going higher than 1024 by 768, i tried changing the target in properties with the +sxy thing but it didn't work. Also, should i be able to run bf2 with everything on high and 4x AA? its running perfectly with everything on high and no AA

If it doesn't run smoothly with 4X AA, then you should leave it off. Just have to accept that.

AA really drags down performance, especially in newer games even if have a top-of-the-line GPU.

There are a lot of games where I can handle them with everything at the maximum, etc. on my 256MB X700, but once AA is enabled, the game is very choppy.

2X Full Scene Antialiasing renders the scene at double the resolution and THEN after rendering, scales the frame down to the resolution of your monitor.. 4X Antialiasing renders the scene at quadruple the resolution and then scales it down to the resolution of your monitor.
Because of this AntiAliasing is EXTREMELY computationally expensive. Turning up the resolution should always be preferred to turning on Anti-Aliasing. If you're at your display's max resolution and you're still seeing jagged edges, THEN consider turning on 2X anti-aliasing.. Otherwise, leave it off.. I believe when Anti-Aliasing first came out, the original whitepaper explained it as a slick way of drmatically increasing the visual quality on displays that can't support high resolutions.

Anisotropic filtering is a bit different.. 4X and 8X Anisotropic filtering aren't so hard on the graphics card, and if you're playing a game with a lot of depth (such as a first person shooter) Then I suggest you use at least 4X anisotropic filtering.
