I'm done with this game, I should have really waited for some reviews. It will now join the lonely life of cup coaster with Spore. I really really really tried to like this game, but I cant. I know some people love this game, but I'm chalking it up as a $50 loss, so done.![]()
A few things that I couldn't stand:
-Almost No Wildlife / People Only In Towns. (Its Africa Right?)
-Respawning Enemies / Checkpoints.
-Blur After A Short Sprint.
-Same Ten Colors Throughout The Game.
-Mouse Lag In Menu.
-Too Much Driving / Boring Missions.
-Nothing On Screen (Ammo/Heath/HUD) (Pulling up the map gets old).
-Malaria Is Just Retarded.
-Zoom Level In Binoculars.
-Damage To Kill Enemies.
-Horrible Multiplayer.
The game had a lot of potential, but the ball was dropped IMO, I'll admit the Hype had me, hook line and sinker. Oh well.![]()
-
Sorry you didnt like it, I havent heard anything bad about the game until now so I dont think the reviews would have affected your decision to buy it.
If you do want some fun, try get that shooting chickens easter egg, that makes the game enough for me to buy!!! -
Hype and marketing do wonders. I understand how you feel though.
-
Jmna,
You bring up some valid points. I'm most frustrated with the **** diamond tracker.
I heard the game play gets better as you get deeper inside the game. Currently I'm at ~8% completed. -
A few of your points were features actually advertised within the game and as such, heralded by reviewers.
i.e. the spartan HUD, the loads of driving (supposed to be a plus. saved u the walking), the blur after sprinting (immersion) -
-
if i wanted to drive i would buy Grid if i wanted to walk i would buy a friggin FPS which is what Farcry 2 is supposed to be.
I also hate re-spawning enemies its just retarded and unrealistic. Not even Doom 1 from 1994 had that for christ sake.
The blur is also hopeless, if i wanted blur i woud play in 640x480 on a 24 inch LCD with native 1920x1250 or whatever the resolution is again. If s sprint 100 meter in real i dont get a blurry vision. Where did they get this from? Are they even trying be any realistic at all? -
I gave up on it too. I hate that everybody is your enemy and starts shooting at you the moment they see you. This is a sandbox, free roaming game, so I expected little towns with friendly people, for some immersion. Yes, there are 'no fire' towns, but they are filled with soldiers. And respawning would be alright if enemies respawned after a few days, not minutes!

Thanks for posting this thread, it is good to hear from the other side.
I am not buying this game due solely due to the restrictive BS DRM. I saw the game itself played the other day and was not overly impressed, especially with the driving. -
Also, can't blame people for not liking being hated by almost everyone. But, to me, that's part of what makes it fun. This game is a first person shooter, no? Well, as far as shooting goes, there's a hell of a lot of that. Great stuff.
Someone else also said earlier you have to get further into the game to start to love it. I could not back this statement up more. Take it from me, infamous is frustrating sometimes, but if you keep at it, it gets fun as hell later. Don't be so quick to judge, I mean if you want to stop playing that's your decision but from one player to another, keep playing. I'm loving this more than Fallout 3 right now. Which to be fair, I've only played 3 hours of F3 and I'm sure it will get crazy fun later as well.
The multiplayer is actually awesome minus one big thing, lack of a server search/tab. It's all auto find/join, which is completely retarded and I have no idea why they opted for that. Every other aspect is great though. You can press H to full heal yourself/treat your wounds (which looks very cool for those of you who haven't seen the game yet) but to balance that it there is a lot of start up/active frames in the healing animation so you really need to be left alone for a bit to pull it off. You also die relatively fast so this makes the healing process less overpowered.
tl;dr - gets better later, give it a shot. -
the Diamond tracker is plenty easy -.- just follow directions till you get the green light to steady and walk in that direction.. then you find the case , and Malaria is retarded? please.. thats the best thing ive ever seen in a game, it adds life to the game you know..
-
That's exactly what I was saying. I mean ****, all you have to do to keep malaria under control is press "H" ...
Diamond tracking is fairly obvious too because they're clearly not going to put them out in the middle of the field in the open (most of the time) so you should be prone to looking in unobtrusive areas, which greatly reduces the area of your search most of the time. -
I think Ubisoft will be releasing a patch to shut down the whiners that are saying the game didnt live up the hype.
-
This is easily one of the best FPS's I've played in years. If you all want to complain about things like, "the game is too big, it requires vehicles" wth? Last I checked a huge open world game is a good thing! Without the vehicles it would take hours just to get from point A to B.
Do you really think a game is more fun when the mission destination is 10 feet away? What's the point in that! The only things that I don't really like is that you get ran over too easily, and die isntantly too fast from being run over, it gets agrivating. The map should also be a little smaller or more to the sides so you can see, and the monocular thing should have a zoom in and out function. Lastly, healing animations shouldn't stop just because you're shot one time.. But then again, that does add to the dificulty, forcing you to dash behind covor, so mabe they shouldnt change the healing animations. -
I actually don't use vehicles most of the time so I have less of a chance of missing a diamond suitcase. I've got like 60km in walking distance, haha. As for getting run over, I don't think it's actually that bad. Whenever I see a car coming at me I try to confirm what direction it's heading in and strafe perpendicularly. Successfully dodge run over attempts and not only that but as they're getting out of the car you can punish them however you want. Also, I don't know about you guys but I run into a ton of random wild life, like a pack of 6 zebras for example fairly often. So, whoever was complaining about wild life, seriously just play the game for more than an hour or two. I suppose if you drive most of the time you might miss it though. On infamous difficulty, it's much better to walk in general since running into patrol cars are a nuisance/pretty dangerous considering how little it takes to kill the player in infamous.
It is an excellent FPS. Just not perfect. Shouldn't be judging it that way anyway, because what is? And I can't stress enough to keep playing the game. I want to write up an unbiased/objective review/guide for this and Dead Space when I get the chance. -
What I get really annoyed about is when I'm driving a car, find a suitcase bleeping on the radar, and just get out only to be run over and instantly killed by a car that I never even knew was behind me..
And sometimes when walking out in the savannah I'll be randomly run over from a car that again.. I never saw behind me..
Just a few hours ago when I was playing the game again, I quietly walked up to a camp, started catching the grass on fire with the flamethrower, and got run over within 5 seconds of catching the grass on fire AGAIN! I didn't see the car, didn't hear it, they never fired at me, just instant death -
wait for the reviews?
The critics love the game: http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/farcry2?q=far cry 2#critics -
-
I am playing through the game currently. I'll have more thorough impressions later, but some of the criticisms are legitimate. I will say that the AI is great at times and horrible at times. It's unfortunate. I don't doubt that Ubi or the modding community (more likely) will address several of these issues.
Ubi has said that for their first patch, we may see the return of more wildlife as well as the introduction of carnivores. Should be interesting. -
Yeah I really love this FPS, easily the best for a very long time. Who cares if you have to drive for a few minutes. Compared to Crysis small corridor levels FC2´s is huuuge, just in my ballpark. Love this game and graphics is top notch.

I played about 2-3 hours, and it just seems a waste.
Nothing exciting, the graphics ain`t better than Crysis, even though I run it on Very High, 1920x1200 , and well, it seems that the story is just boring as hell.
Maybe I`ll give it another go, another time. For now, I`m done with it.
Going to finally play Frontlines Fuel of War and BlackSite Area 51 -

I reinstalled it a few months later.. and uninstalled it again.. 20 minutes after playing.. That game defines boring corridor shooters with some of the worst animations and AI I've ever seen.. -
-
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
Heh heh... it's a Ubisoft game, won't be long before the price drops. I'll wait till then.
-
If you guys dont want FC2, mail it my direction. It wont be a coaster, I sware.
-
-
It didn't get good for me until about 5-6 hours.
-
Had this been made by Crytek again, it would've been different...maybe not lag wise though lol
-
It's really not that different. What else are they missing in terms of movement? Can't give a random dude a nanosuit so just cross out all of its capabilities. We're just missing the peeking side to side option. We gain the slide into crouch while running option.
-
This game vs crysis graphics wise, all they would have to do, is give the ground textures steep parallax mapping, make give the sun a higher saturation value, and throw in those amazing crysis physics!
-
Whats wrong with a dude in a nanosuit? Do you know how exciting that would be to go into the wildlife of Africa and fight raw lions? Or even maximum strength your way onto a giraffes neck and then rip it apart?
Oooooh the journey...so teasing. -
-
Same ten colors? I suppose you also would have complained if they put in a rainbow mine cart race level, or an ice-fishing level, because it would have been inconsistent with the rest of the game, too?
Maybe they should have had your character go through some dramatic event toward the beginning of the game, which would have been the catalyst in developing the ability to teleport! Saving you all the driving around! And instead of needing the pills to combat your malaria, you need them to keep your ability to teleport! OMG.
I think we've learned not everyone's gonna love a straight shooter married with an open-world style game. -
People should really wait to gripe/review something until they've at least played a decent portion of the game. It seems like everyone here that actually gave it a shot was pleased, including myself.
-
I'm so rich now... got like 160 dismonds...XD) and am up to about 38% of the game completed (just got down to the second map) and I really like it.
The main missions are getting better and better...
Loving my silenced MP5 with camo suit and can't wait to try out all the other cool weapons...
-
Ten colors that was hilarious but not true. I think the landscape shows africa in it´s own right, with both savannah and rain forests. More realistic graphics than Crysis in my opinion.
-
My frames per second slow down just about every 5-23 minutes and I have to restart the game but I still think without doubt it's one of my favorite FPS. Its open ended yet very straight forward. I'm just a fan of it.
-
-
I think the vegetation in this game is much better than crysis. My only complaints so far are the lack of a browser for online play and of course the horrible ranked servers. The unranked servers run great, but then you have to play for a while to get any good weapons. Only other thing I can think of is, they need to put foot tracks in the game, with so many desert and muddy maps, it would really add to the realism. -
That's true, and I agree with that but all I'm saying is that it's a game with a slow start. I'm on the verge of completing Dead Space and just got out into the wastelands in Fallout 3 but this game manages to capture my priorities between the 3.
As for the footprint qualm, I actually didn't even realize this. They should have totally added them and incorporated it into the A.I. and what not. That would make for some great realism. -
Me neither, but it would have been cool.
Alas, too many people are wondering why there are no lions. Or monkeys. Or natives throwing spears... -
fallout 3, for all it's faults, had me hooked from minute 1
deus ex had me hooked from minute 1
system shock 2 had me hooked from minute 1, i didnt have to play it for 6 hours to decide whether it was good
dead space had me hooked right away
i could go on but you get the point; 6 hours in? if im not hooked after 30 minutes im not going to be hooked at all
all the basic concepts of farcry 2 are apparent after 30 minutes, you dont have to do more than 1 mission to get a full impression of the game mechanics, you also dont have to drive over the whole map to get frustrated with the respawning checkpoints and terrible car physics -
Hmm...I'm tossing up whether to get FC2 or DeadSpace. Anyone want to throw a suggestion out there? I only just got my rig last week and picked up Crysis immediately only to be immediately disappointed by the lack of intelligent A.I. (SPOILER: yes I've played it through all the way to the er...change of enemies so to speak), the boring and lazy design and the lack of any kind of decent need for strategy. So that being said do people think FC2 or DS would be a better bang for buck.
Oh and I'm mixing this game while playing Fallout 3 too. -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
Dead Space is a ton of fun and I would recommend it over FC2, but it is not going to blow your socks off with AI or open ended-ness. It's a space shooter with metal hallways and scary 4SS space zombies. You run around fixing systems on a huge spaceship while getting the crap scared out of you from the fantastic sound design and monsters. The HUD-less design is very cool and overall the game is a lot of fun to play. It has some replay-ability... you upgrade your weapons and suit but you can't max anything out, so you keep your upgrades when you finish the game and start again, getting more upgrades and unlocked content.
-
From the sounds of it, fallout 3 would be the game to get.
Ok, another thing that was odd while playing far cry 2 last night. I was fixing my boat on the river bank and out of nowhere a car came crashing through I barely avoided and he drove right into the water O_O'. -
World at War anyone?
