Damn those trees are ridiculous.

Snake oil salesmen. They've been peddling this crap for years now trying to get venture funding.
No dynamic lighting. Extreme memory requirements. No animation.
Good luck making a game.
Edit: Just found this. http://notch.tumblr.com/post/8386977075/its-a-scam. Swear to god I wrote my post before I read that. -
Yeah, that's what I've heard. But it looks pretty =p
-
Wow can't wait
-
Of all the things they could render in "unlimited detail," why'd they pick Minecraft?
-
Well, this is not the first time this topic comes to the forum. What I can't imagine is why they want to call it 'unlimited detail'. Even if the claims are close to true (composed of 'atoms' or should we say... very small polygons) the amount of power to even calculate an animation (say a tree falls) would be immense in comparison handling a few textures polygons.
-
Well from what I gather from the video they seem to be focusing on non animated objects. So I'm thinking a combination of something like this with current polygons would work nicely.
Non moving objects become more realistic. Of course with games introducing destructable environments that may not be so great. Although I don't miss it that much when comparing crysis to crysis 2. -
...and the games industry: "nah... we are just fine for now, thanks!"
Seriously, I'm not an expert at these things... but that engine sure looks power hungry and by power hungry I mean generations-ahead-power-hungry. Atom water phisx simulation (with realistic splashes and such) is something I want to see.
Oh, and why did they even bother showcasing this without more shaders? Realistic atom rocks or not... it doesn't look that impressive without more shaders. -
Megacharge Custom User Title
Something like this could only be feasible through cloud gaming being hosted on "Custom Super Servers". Obviously there is no way any desktop could handle games running this type of engine. Just not enough ram or processing power yet. Internet speeds would also come into play here, I highly doubt the current infrastructure could handle this type of gaming "online" at current speeds.

I`m sorry. I`m not buying this. This demonstration is the same they showed 1 year ago. Either they are bluffing or they have a lot of work to do because some stones and a tree is not very impressive. Show me some dynamic ingame play and I will maybe believe it. And perhaps show us the computer building the world so that we can be shure that is not cluster of computers doing it
And why are there no animations in the video? -
This is Old.
-
A huge problem of such technology is that it is mostly good for static objects. Animation poses a problem (specially realistic animation) and other things like physics would make it difficult to use in a current game.
the technology does look nice, but aside from rendering a pretty image, I doubt it has actual game applications. -
New video out.
Euclideon & Unlimited Detail - Bruce Dell Interview - YouTube
This tech could be quite useful for static objects like buildings or something, while using polygons on stuff that needs to be animated. -
Voxel animation is possible. It's just heavy.
