So yesterday I decided to put Linux on my P377SM-A and I noticed that Phoronix had added a ue4 test selection.
The performance is not impressive and UE4 will not support SLI.
My 980M struggled to maintain over 45FPS @ 1080p in Linux and Windows was even worse with a few dips below 30FPS that didn't happen in Linux.

Try it for yourself. It's all smooth sailing until the ice...
To turn on FPS, hit ~ and type stat FPS or use your favorite third party utility.
Beautiful demo though. I was playing with the Atlantis demo on Linux (UE4 has lots of Linux demos available and they perform quite well) and... Wow. Gorgeous stuff.

The ice part is more CPU intensive, so I would discount that part as "DX12 irrelevant". The benchmark is sort of old [June, 2012] and some of the lighting and particle effects will be easier on GPUs in DX12 too.
Using FRAPS: Stock Speeds on 980m & 4710HQ.

The interior part was 45-50s, exterior part was 29-low 40s and mostly 35-39.
I ran it twice more because I missed a second at the beginning and hit the U4 screen on the back end for a second or so the first time. The last one was about perfect.

Yeah I actually played my first UE4 game last night, Ether One for PS4. Absolutely spectacular visuals and for the PS4, very acceptable performance. It pushes the limit of what the hardware can do as evidenced by my PS4 sounding like it is about to take off to the moon but it was a really nice demo of what UE4 can do on weak hardware so I can't wait to see it on desktop hardware.
It's not a surprise to me that it runs better in Linux. Epic has always been Linux friendly. UT 2K4 ran better in Linux than Windows as well. -
UT4 even on the good maps runs quite well on a single card.
UE4 will never support SLI, this is true. They said their programming needs previous frame data for some of their technologies to work.
I swear, some of these new engines were built for DX12 before DX12 was to come out.
Anyway, benchmarks/tests/demos are often not meant to be optimized, but rather to simply judge a system's performance on an equal plane. -
The engines of the future with no SLI support! Time to sell my GT80.
I just downloaded Ether One, I will try it later today and see what's up! -
There's a possibility that SFR with DX12 might not "add" vRAM.
Games that come out with SLI support sometimes scale so badly it's a joke, like Dying Light.
UE4 (powerful, soon-to-be-popular engine), Unity (popular for some unknown reason) and ID Tech 5 (because Bethesda and John Carmack are stupid) will never support SLI.
nVidia's selling point technologies don't work with SLI on their new GPUs... like MFAA. There's another tech too but I can't remember which one.
Maxwell's voltage adjusting crap causes clockspeeds to differ somewhat often in SLI, and it's uncontrollable without a vBIOS mod. Differing clockspeeds can cause stutter.
AMD still has yet to figure out how to multi-GPU in windowed mode.
Compared to when I bought this thing, SLI has gotten so much worse in terms of recommend-ability it's a joke. It's like nVidia and these engines were designed for DX12, but who the hell knows when that's going to be here, ready, waiting, and being used in games? Hopefully in a year or so our problems will be alleviated, but... right now? I'm telling everyone I get the chance to to at least get a 980 before they even consider multi-GPU. On AMD's side, I'm basically yelling at them to wait for the R9 390X so they could buy one of those instead of two R9 290X cards. 970 SLI? That's off the whole radar right now. So far off the radar it's a joke. When people suggest 960 SLI I take a sledgehammer to the idea. -
It's a unique game though. I got sucked right into it despite it being more about puzzles and such. I don't think it's possible to die... At least if it is, I haven't yet. -

Though I gotta say, Bloodborne is taking 99% of my PS4 time. Maybe I will try it tonight when I am about to sleep

Yea this is why I got the titan x and why I won't be going SLI in the future. It's just such a **** show.

Not everyone is like that, but as I keep pointing out, many people are, and certain products' limitations *cough* GTX 970 memory bug *cough* are FAR more likely to trigger in windowed/borderless scenarios. -
Tried the Ether One demo 0n PS4. Looks nice and I didn't expect the 60fps. It does get my fan cooling but nowhere near loud enough to bother me.

Fast forward to about 2:30 where he gets in close... The sound is actually worse than the mic picks up, it's extremely high pitched.
