    Alright folks, lets get this frag-fest started.

    I have been waiting for this game to come out for quite some time now, and it is finally taking pre-orders.
    From:
    - Amazon.com
    - Newegg.com
    - Walmart.com
    - Target.com
    etc...

    Release Date
    UPDATE: New release date will be in November.
    Another delay once again, but probably for the better, since it should be optimize for all next-gen systems.
    I believe that they are optimizing DX10 [they have already completed most of DX9 renderers], SLI/Crossfire support, PhysX support and multi-core support.

    I have gone to three E3 Expo's (covering UT2007) and have been following their [Epic Games'] progress. They are very close to their final betas.

    :wink: UPDATE: UT3 Beta Demo (now available) :wink:

    Its a beautiful day to frag someone.

    Background

    Unreal Tournament 3, codenamed Envy and formerly known as Unreal Tournament 2007, is part of the Unreal series of games and is the sequel to 2004's Unreal Tournament 2004. Using Unreal Engine 3, it is a first-person shooter video game designed mainly for multiplayer gaming, although the game has a built-in single-player mode that mimics multiplayer gaming by featuring bots with artificial intelligence. The game is developed by Epic Games and will be published by Midway Games.

    In 2005, Unreal Tournament 3, then known as Unreal Tournament 2007, was announced for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 3. On January 25, 2007, Midway made an official announcement that the newly renamed game, Unreal Tournament 3, would be released for Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Each version of the game is targeting a release date in the second half of 2007. Additionally, a demo will be released for Windows before the full game's release.

    - the weapons

    UDATE: Official System Requirements
    :GEEK: Updated Info: :GEEK:
    Finally, Epic has confirmed that, unlike Crysis, DX9 and DX10 gamers will be able to play together. This has delighted those in the have-not category of PC enthusiasts, who may have felt a little segregated after the recent news that DX10 gamers will get their own 'special' Crysis servers. Since UT3 uses DX10 more for aesthetic than functional purposes, gamers win out this time around.

    Gameplay

    The following game modes have been confirmed:

    * Deathmatch
    * Team Deathmatch
    * Capture the flag
    * Onslaught - Essentially a team deathmatch type of gameplay played on a huge map where the object is to destroy, capture and hold key power nodes. The gameplay is very similar to the conquest gametype of the Battlefield Series, however, after capturing key nodes the player must destroy the enemy's power core. Vehicles are extremely critical in onslaught mode. This mode was introduced in UT2004.
    * Unreal Warfare (formerly known as Conquest) - New to the UT series, maps will be potentially as large as three Onslaught maps, and will have objectives similar to Assault maps. A limited form of resource management will exist in the form of tarydium mines or fields that must be captured; the more a team captures, the faster it can build vehicles and turrets, and the more bunkers it has the more tarydium it will need. Bunkers will possibly serve a similar purpose to power nodes in Onslaught. This type of gameplay mode was also in the game Command & Conquer: Renegade. A significant amount of details regarding Unreal Warfare has changed since "Conquest" was first announced, so it is possible that this form of resource management no longer exists.
    * Vehicle Capture the Flag - Originally it was stated that there would be a separate gametype for Capture the Flag with vehicles, but it now appears as if that idea has been scrapped and vehicles will be included in Capture the Flag by default.

    The Weapons

    The following weapons have been confirmed:

    * Impact Hammer - returning from UT, replacing the Shield Gun.

    * Dual Enforcers
    [IMG] [IMG]
    - returning from UT, replacing the Assault Rifles. Primary fire is a basic automatic shot; secondary fire is a three round burst.

    * Canister Gun - has two firing modes: Grenade Launcher and Mine Layer. Different types of ammunition will be needed for each firing mode. This weapon effectively combines two different UT2004 guns into a single, multi-purpose device. This weapon is unconfirmed and it is rumored that the grenade launcher and spider layer will be seperate weapons. With the revelation that the Bio Rifle was once again its own weapon, this weapon is presumed to have been dropped, although conformation is needed.

    * Bio Rifle
    [IMG] [IMG]
    - similar to its previous UT games counterparts. A 25 January 2007 trailer and screenshot indicate this will be a seperate weapon, as opposed to a mode for the Canister Gun, as previously mentioned by Epic.

    * Shock Rifle
    [IMG] [IMG]
    - Playtests confirmed that this weapon is now more similar to the UT99 version; the rate of fire is slower than the 2k4 version, and the cores are smaller and faster.

    * Link Gun
    [IMG] [IMG]
    - features a primary fire mode much like the Pulse Gun from UT, comprised mainly of repeated bolts of green energy. The Link Gun is much more similar to the UT version than UT2004's Link Gun, having a much faster primary rate of fire (media showing the Link Gun confirmed this). The secondary fire mode fires a beam that, when linked to other team mates wielding the Link Gun, enhances its power. Additionally, the Link Gun can be used to repair vehicles and charge/heal power nodes in Onslaught 2.0/Unreal Warefare

    * Tarydium Stinger
    [IMG] [IMG]
    - previously seen in Unreal and Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict, replaces the Minigun.

    * Flak Cannon
    [IMG] [IMG]
    - much like its previous forms, sprays shards of metal when using the primary fire mode and, when using the secondary fire mode, launches an explosive flak shell into the air. Primary fire remains the same, but the arc of flak shells is shorter than it was in UT2k4.

    * Rocket Launcher
    [IMG] [IMG]
    - primary fire will function similarly to the UT2004 Rocket Launcher with the ability to fire up to three rockets. It will also have an alternate function to fire up to three grenades as well, as seen in Unreal and UT 's "8-Ball" launcher, and dropped in UT2003/UT2004. The rocket launcher main fire retains its features from past games, being able to fire in either spread or tight spiral patterns. Rockets fire slower than the UT2k4 version, but deal more damage. It also has an improved homing feature.

    * AVRiL - Anti-Vehicle Rocket Launcher (the "i" being for pronunciation purposes)

    * Sniper Rifle - much like its predecessors, the Sniper Rifle fires when primary fire is pressed, and zooms in or out when secondary fire is pressed. This weapon has yet to be seen in any media.

    * Translocator - a personal teleportation device. Primary fire launches a translocator beacon, while secondary fire teleports to that beacon.

    * Redeemer - a portable nuclear missile capable of extreme damage. No information or media has been released about it.

    * Target Painter - activates a level specific hazard (such as a rock slide).

    The Vehicles

    Axon vehicles

    The vehicles in Unreal Tournament 2004, including those in the Editor's Choice Edition, will return in UT3, referred to as "Axon Vehicles" as they are manufactured by the Axon Corporation. These are the more traditional of the two sets.

    * Manta (Hovercraft)
    [IMG]
    The Manta is an extremely fast and agile hovercraft, using a pair of fan rotors on either side to hover. Its primary weapon is a pair of plasma cannons, and the secondary is a downward thrust that brings the vehicle low enough to the ground to clip heads off with its rotor blades.

    * Raptor (Stall Fighter)
    [IMG]
    The Raptor is a fast fighter equipped with plasma cannons and air-to-air homing missiles.

    * Scorpion (Light Assault Buggy)
    [IMG]
    The Scorpion buggy now has an enclosed ****pit as opposed to UT2004's unshielded cabin and fires Grenades instead of bolas(plasma ribbons). It has a speed-boost function (similar to Unreal 2 XMP buggy's) that allows long jumps off ramps and also works as a kamikaze self-destruct if the player ejects from the ****pit. Its secondary weapon is a pair of blades that extend to either side for cutting down enemies. The blades now extend from under the nose of the vehicle, rather than the sides as in the UT2004 version.

    * Hellbender (Armored Jeep)
    [IMG]
    The Hellbender is a two-man armored jeep with shock weaponry and a heavy build. The driver is able to use the skymine turret eliminating the need for an extra gunner manning the turret, as was the case with UT2004. The vehicle's rear mounted beams have done away with the charge and release style attack; they now feature a much faster rate of fire similar to the Shock Rifle.

    * Cicada (Gunship/Interdictor)
    [IMG]
    The Cicada is a heavy, yet manoeuvrable two-seater flying gunship with an arsenal of powerful missiles. It also is equipped with a targeting mechanism allowing the pilot to target areas and release swarms of missiles. Unlike UT2004's Cicada, UT3's version will have its missiles home in on specific land units when they are targeted. The second seat controls a twin barrel turret on the belly.

    * SPMA (Mobile Artillery)
    [IMG]
    The SPMA (or SPAM as many like to call it), is a long-range and mobile artillery unit that shoots powerful shells. The SPMA in UT3 has a half-track chassis (unlike the 6-wheel UT2004 version), and will allow players to more carefully calculate the trajectory and range of the shot - making the weapon more accurate to use. Whether or not the vehicle will have a skymine turret like the Hellbender (as it did in UT2004) is still unknown.

    * Paladin (Prototype Defensive Tank)
    [IMG]
    The Paladin is a prototype one-manned tank that moves (slowly) on 8 wheels rather than the traditional tank treads. It is equipped with a powerful plasma shot and a shield that protects it and nearby players from a particular direction. It also features a powerful shockwave explosion that surrounds the tank, activated by firing the main cannon into its own deployed shield.

    * Goliath (Battle Tank)
    [IMG]
    The new Goliath Mk.2 will feature improved handling and upgraded weaponry and it "should handle more like a tank than a brick". It has been rumoured it will also feature destroyable treads. Playtests revealed that the main cannon fire was relatively the same; but the vehicle now featured a wide range "infantry killer" shell as its secondary fire(this is presumed to have replaced the secondary zoom function of the previous title). The secondary minigun turret has also been upgraded for much better accuracy and firepower.

    * Leviathan ("Mobile Assault Station")
    [IMG]
    The Leviathan is a powerful five-man vehicle with a main turret controlled by the driver. The driver can deploy a super weapon at the cost of immobilizing the vehicle. There are also four secondary turrets controlled by other players. The secondary turrets feature shields similar to those on the Skaarj mothership's turrets in UT2004. Each turret has a different type of weapon.

    Necris vehicles

    The Necris, an alien species in the Unreal universe, will have a rival set of vehicles. There will be 9 new Necris vehicles with very different styling and unusual behaviors. Although they will not parallel Axon's vehicles, they are intended to make a good balance against them.

    * Viper (Hoverbike)
    [IMG]
    Designed to be highly maneuverable. It will feature a kamikaze function which will allow the pilot to bail out and turn it into a sort of flaming projectile that will inflict much more damage than the turret weapon it has.

    * Nemesis (Hovertank)
    [IMG]
    Will have snake-like treads which adapt to the ground below it as it moves. Its main gun is very similar to mounted energy turrets. This vehicle has a zoom function.

    * Darkwalker (Heavy Walker)
    [IMG]
    The main weapon will be a laser beam which can fire in short bursts; secondary fire produces a tremendous "scream", which would knock opponents off their feet, making them easier targets. It will also have the ability to bend down or pop up in order to surprise the enemy. Judging by screenshots, the Darkwalkers somewhat resemble the "Striders" in Half-Life 2, and more strongly resemble the tripods from Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds. The second seat of the darkwalker is a powerful turret that projects plasma in a beam capable of instantly vapourising an unarmoured target (much like in war of the worlds, except much messier)

    * Fury (Energy Fighter)
    [IMG]
    A Necris aircraft that uses tentacles for a jellyfish-like method of propulsion through the air. Has the ability to boost and barrel roll to escape enemy fire.

    Other

    * Hoverboard (Personal transportation)
    [IMG]
    All players have the hoverboard, a skateboard-like fast way to get around the larger maps of UT3, especially when the player attaches himself to another vehicle to be towed. While on the Hoverboard players are unable to use their weapons, and are extremely vulnerable to attacks. Players are also able to perform tricks while on the hoverboard, although this is purely cosmetic and has no effect on gameplay.

    More info to come (gotta host more of my pics and stuff) :)

    Man it looks great. But not a lot of laptops fits the recommended specs :( Atleast for CPU.

    the CPU is based off of the old P4/Athlon speeds.

    Any Core (2) Duo or AMD X2 should do fine.

    Wow.
    I just ordered UT04, don't think I'll bother with this as I only just meet the minimum requirements.
    I was a fan of the original UT though.

    I'm really curious to see how the Asus A8js will do with this game. I'd imaging it will do fairly well on medium settings (upgraded to 2g or ram).

    I would think that the A8Js should fair well with this game.

    Unreal series have always been VERY "hardware requirements" friendly. If you have played an UT before on crappy systems, then you would remember that the game still ran perfect.

    Go EPIC. :)

    Not because i liked any of the ut games.

    I liked the game unreal 2, so if there is an unreal 3 I would like to play it.

    If thats the case, then you should like Gears of War (another Unreal 3 Engine game),
    the PC version should be out at the same time or before UT3 is released.
    [IMG]

    The single player mode is good and has gameplay/linear story like Unreal 2.

    Kudos to Gophn for making a thread. I thought maybe I was the only one drooling over this game. My new G1 I imagine will run it well. Luckily I live within 15 minutes of both a Gamestop and Ebgames (in the same outlet!)

    I will have it on day one no doubt. Who to pre-order from is the question :)

    Well Amazon, Walmart and other online sites have it for pre-order...

    but I was notified that Unreal Tournament 3 has yet been delayed once again...

    New release date will be mid-August to early-September 2007. :err:

    I believe that they are optimizing DX10 [they have already completed most of DX9 renderers], SLI/Crossfire support, PhysX support and multi-core support.

    This is going to be a HOT game when it comes out. Thats for sure. :wink:

    it should run quite fast, if you are an experience Unreal player, you would remember that the Unreal series has usually been hardware-friendly.

    Cmon, I was playing full speed on Intel GMA950 and an old Geforce MX4000. :D

    I too have heard it has been delayed. This brings me great sadness, especially if the reason is DX 10. Mainly because I won't be using 10 probably until after christmas due to money constraints. But oh well, maybe when I do make the leap the game will look even better :D

    Same here. I am both sad and annoyed about the delay. I need to play a next-gen FPS without the hype [*cough* crysis]. Gears of War is probably not going to be ported to PC until the release of UT3... dang. I want to play a UE3 FPS game ASAP.... even if its a demo. :twitcy:

    QFT. From the first post in this thread though, it sounds like it'll be a bit more like the original UT. I'm actually kinda looking forward to it. Maybe it'll be fun to play online again. And hopefully they'll have a Linux version like they have in the past. If they do, it's a guaranteed sale to me, even if it's not great.

    I really hope my first laptop will be able to play UT3. My parents want it for school but I'm going to try to convince them that I should get a more "futureproof" laptop.

    Tell them that playing games on a laptop is safer than going to frat parties and getting wasted ;) Then you get a fast laptop, and you can still go to frat parties and get wasted :p

    (of course this is tongue in cheek... I don't recommend irresponsibly drinking.)

    Another important step to understand how amazing this game [and engine] will be with the PC Games Hardware interview of Tim Sweeny from Epic:

    http://forums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=571019

    Synopsis:
    Epic Games Forums have posted a thread translating an interview with Epic’s Tim Sweeney concerning Unreal Engine 3. Inside you will find interesting technical information regarding Unreal Engine 3 such as multi-core CPU support, DX10 support, lack of AA in DX9 but will support it in DX10, as well as some info that could possibly spell bad times ahead for the Radeon HD 2900 XT in Unreal Tournament 3 compared to the GeForce 8 series.

    PCGH: How exactly are you utilizing the functions of Direct X 10?
    Epic: Unreal Tournament 3 will ship with full DX10 support, with multi-sampling being the biggest visible benefit of the new graphics interface. Additionally, with DX10 under Vista we have the possibility to use the video memory more efficiently, to be able to display textures with a higher grade of detail as it would be possible with the DX9 path of Vista. Most effects of UT3 are more bound to the fillrate than to basic features like geometry processing. That's why DX10 has a great impact on performance, while we mostly forgo the integration of new features.

    Of course, we will hold off judgments until we actually play the game, but on paper this bolded comment sure makes us think since ATI has concentrated on geometry performance over texture/fillrate performance with the R600.

    I know the game isn't out yet, but what kind of configuration do you think you'll need in order to run this game on max settings on a laptop?

    I updated the system requirements on the original post to correspond the new information that gets released ever so often.

    To play on high/max settings on notebooks, I would think:
    - dual core CPU
    - at least 2GB RAM
    - at least 512mb videocard
    - For DX9: Geforce 7900GTX/7950GTX (or with SLI) or ATI X1800/X1900
    - For DX10: only the rumored 8700M GT, no real high end card on notebooks yet (8600s are mid-range),

    To play on high/max settings on desktops, I would think:
    - quad-core CPU
    - at least 2GB RAM
    - Ageia PhysX card
    - at least 512mb videocard
    - For DX9: Geforce 7900GTX/7950GTX (or with SLI) or ATI X1800/X1900 CF
    - For DX10: Geforce 8800GTS/GTX or ATI X2900

    Gophn here.

    The main thing that excited me about this year's E3 was UT3.

    here is high-def in-game video that was just uploaded:
    http://www.gametrailers.com/game/2469.html

    Also Gears of War (same developer) for PC will be out near the same time.

    I want it. Hehe. I loved the original UT... used to be in the top 10% of the multiplayer stats. What would rock is if they let the PS3 and XBox 360 players to play with the PC players, so people would start to realize how inferior the control pad is for those kinds of game ;) My old roommate still claims he could kick my rear in Halo if I was on a PC and he used the XBox.

    yes, as far as I now, this UT3 will be cross-platform multiplayer madness.

    literally mouse/keyboard VS controllers.... gee, I wonder which is better? ;)

    a 8700M would not max out this game on DX10 mode,, my guess is not even close. a 8700M is a desktop 8600GT. so far even a 8800gtx gets only 30ish fps in DX10 games on 1280*1024 resolution

    Thats why Epic has made sure to give better performance in the game if you use the DX9 shaders over the DX10. :)

    updated. :)

    with this:

    UPDATE: Official System Requirements
    :GEEK: Updated Info: :GEEK:
    Finally, Epic has confirmed that, unlike Crysis, DX9 and DX10 gamers will be able to play together. This has delighted those in the have-not category of PC enthusiasts, who may have felt a little segregated after the recent news that DX10 gamers will get their own 'special' Crysis servers. Since UT3 uses DX10 more for aesthetic than functional purposes, gamers win out this time around.

    That's good news. Then we'll have the new Crysis demo ánd UT3 :) It bothers me that it will be a beta demo again though.
