Both are $29.95 on Steam, and both are online-multiplayer games.
    Which one and why?

    TF2.

Because it's more fun that you thought was possible in an online FPS.

I personally love UT3 more. Better action, better graphics and the game modes are kewl. I`d play a connect te link mode for ever.
But TF2 is more fun. If you can , get both...they both are amazing games.
Download the UT3 demo and see for yourself.

I found both games to be equally fun so getting both, if possible, would be a good thing. spend a little more with TF2 and you'll get 4 more great games.

Yeah... try out the UT3 Demo... but it doesn't do justice to the game... considering the much wider array of vehicles not covered in the demo at all! :D

UT 3 is very polished old school DM game with lots of familiar weapons from previous editions while TF2 is sort of a new novelty game different from TFC (which is derived from quake DM i believe). i don't think it's fair to compare the two. if you're not a quake or UT fan then TF2 may be right for you.

TF2 was more fun than I expected (got it in the Orange Box). It is a nice detour from the classic DM game.

    TF2 over UT3.

Both are fun but TF2 wins hands down because

Its just plain fun without being too hardcore and frustrating

Its a colorful game, that for me means I can always play it and not feel like crap. I cant play dull games graphics wise for more than an hour without feeling down.

It has more servers, players and more classes.

own UT3, played it maybe...... a dozen times... just couldn't get into it. So got CoD4 instead, and recently friend got me playing TF2 so now my 2 games are CoD4 and TF2 if i'm in a FPS mood.

Yeah, I tried the UT3 demo already. The online portion didn't work for me however, but the offline Team DM and Vehicle CTF was fun.

The only reason I'm holding back on TF2 is because I just bought the retail version of Portal for $20 a few days ago, so if I buy TF2 for $30, I might as well have gotten the Orange Box.

I Really Don't Like How UT 3 Looks, It Has A Lot Of Polygons And Texturds But It's Too Much, You Can Hardly See The Enemy!

It's Like They Were"Ooh Lets Put Some Cool - Looking Gadgets On The Wall" And They Didn't Think That It's Hard To See Enemies Vs. Cluttered Backgrounds.

They Should Learn How To Make Game Design More Simple.

This Game Just Fails At Design, Because It's Not Just Making A Map That Looks Pretty It Has To Be Fun, Like Deck 16 In UT1999 Had Fraction Of Polygons But It Was 100000 Times More Fun Than UT3.

They Should Look At Other Games Like Halo - 3 And Don't Put Like Milloins Of Things On Maps And Simplify Their Designs.

I have to agree with warlogue here, UT3 is a dull game. Its pretty much all different shades of grey which makes it very hard to distinguish between different things. Same goes for gears of war.

TF2 FTW. TF2 is more fun than you could ever believe until you actually play it. Playing as the different classes available is incredibly entertaining. Go for TF2, you won't regret it (or be able to stop playing).

    Agreed.

As far as I can tell there's not much setting this apart from their previous games except it's more demanding and has a worse look.

At least GoW pulled it off better, probably because it was a campaign focused game.

Oh, and TF2 is a great game. Buy it, in fact, go the extra $20 and get the whole Orange Box.

actually i don't like TF2 at all. i feel it gets pretty boring very quickly. the classes kinda make it fun and interesting, but after 15 or so minutes i feel i'd rather do something else. thats just my opinion though, there are lots of people who like the game. but it just doesn't do it for me.

I just don't like dull games in general, Bioshocks based on the UT3 engine but not as dull.

That is what I don't like about new games these days, they all try to go for the "realistic" look and they all think using shades of dull colours such as grey is the way to do it.

Thats why I like TF2, its colourful and I associate mood with colour.

If games go for the realistic look they should at least do it right like Crysis has done, sure the world is pretty f'ed up at times but that doesn't mean every things gotta be grey

How's the campaign mode on UT3?
    And will I be able to max out TF2 on a 8600MGT DDR3 without OC? ( I don't mind Oc'ing either, if it's neccessary)

Good points on Unreal 3 engine based Bioshock looking better, and Crysis ! :D I agree with you.. :) Actually, I felt the same about UT3 when I first played it.... I thought they had overcooked the post processing and pixel shader effects in both UT3 and GoW. You expressed it much better with "Shades of grey" :)

You can change the basic overlay of the colors in the graphics options.

Though I myself prefer the darker, "high contrast" colors. What they were aiming for is to make the game feel more horror esque. It fits in when you think about UT3's , and every UT game's massive amount of slaughter going on, and body parts flying everywhere.

I wouldn't call it shades of grey, more like intense contrast and shades of brown. I think this might sum it up better

Choosing either UT3 or TF2 would be hard because they aren't the same, it would all come down to personal preference.

i actually like the UT3 graphics. they don't seem to me like they were meant to be dead on real like Crysis. ut3 graphics bring about this illusory (hence "unreal" tournament...) / dreamy feeling. now ut3 isn't all that fun really (in my opinion). for a quick 15 minute deathmatch it can be quite fun, other than that isn't that great.

UT3. TF2 is not even in the same world as UT3. TF2 is more of a have fun fooling around game. UT3 is a more serious, epic, action packed, fun and varied multiplayer experience.

I Agree With This Statement. But It Makes The Game Worse Than UT1999 Grafics.

In UT1999 It Was Like The World Itself Is Unreal Cos You Have Maps Like CTF Face And Other Cool Maps But The Graphics Looked Realistic, So You Could Picture This Happening. And Also It Had Colours That Go With Each Other And When Other Players Running You Can Actually See Where They Are Because They Don't Blend In With The Background.

In UT2K Everything Is Too Much "Unreal" To The Point Where It's Like A Painting Of Phantasy, It's Fun To Look At Screenshot But Gameplay Sucks.

And To The Above Poster I Actually Like The Fact That In UT1999 You Can Load 6 Rockets Into Rocket Launcher And Smash Someone Into Pieces It's So Much More Fun In That Game Then In UT2K.. (And U Only Can Do 3)

Too Bad UT1999 Has Weird Slow Motioned Bug On New Computers, I Would Still Play Over New UT's It If It Wasn't For This Bug.
