    I just bought a inspiron 1564 with a i3 processor, 4gb ram and a integrated graphics card.
I tried the website 'can you run it' to see if I could play some games, and I fail some games because of the graphics card

    Video Card
    Required You Have
Video RAM 256 MB 1.7 GB
    Hardware T&L Yes Yes
    Pixel Shader version 3.0 4.0
    Vertex Shader version 3.0 4.0

Can I not play these as they all are above required spec?

    Thanks in advance.

What games? If they are anything recent (newer than Half-Life 2) then they will likely not play very well.

Integrated GPU solutions are not really tailored for gaming at all. Sure, some can game. Some (most) cannot. Older games will work alright, but more modern games with choke on the GPU you have.

If you're interested in more than just light gaming with older titles you might want to consider returning that notebook.

as mentioned above,if you want to play the newer games on the market then you will need a dedicated graphics card.
intergrated means it is connected to your motherboard and shares the power, dedicated is a standalone card.
of course this means dearer laptops.
my 1.7 fujitsu has intergrated and can just about play the orange box games.anything newer like the call of duty franchise/GTA/battlefield/crysis/farcry etc im sorry to say these will strugle big time and might not even load at all.

a friend of mine has a MSI Notebook with i3 CPU and that integrated Intel HD.

He only played Rainbow Six Vegas 2 so far, but with lowered settings it actually runs quite smoothly. And with lowered settings I mean 640x400 resolution and all settings on low.

I still wonder wether the Intel HD is capable of running SC2

Generally speaking with Intel graphics you do not make any kind of bet on how it will run a game that isn't out yet.

Okay fine. It'll be out tomorrow. But still, it's a new game and historically speaking Intel sucks for new games. Maybe you'll be able to play it at 640x480 or something but it will not be great.

If your interested in gaming you really do need to look elsewhere for graphics solutions.
