I play bf4 most of the time and it needed a gpu mandatory update to continue. I have a lenovo y50 with i5 4200H 2.80 ghz, 8 gb ram, gtx 860M, windows 8.1. I updated to the 347.52 WHQL driver and currently the 347.88 WHQL one. I mostly play on ultra settings and average about 25-35 fps, is that normal? GPU max temperature is around 58-61 celcius with a cooler master notepal ergostand lite cooler. Am I doing it right by updating to a current driver when it's release? Are there any benefits to battlefield 4 and the 347.88 WHQL driver? I update manually though the geforce website. I don't know anything about these gaming things. All I want to do I play on pc because of the portability LOL.

The new 347.88 driver has brought significant improvements to BF4 according to people's reports... I would definetly update to it... (This new driver is for BF Hardline but just like the driver that came out when BF4 came out, this driver significantly increases performance for the previous game)...

BF: Hardline has for me at least wonky fps issues.

Do a clean install of the drivers with DDU.. I think your install is a bit corrupted.. Everyone's noticed great performance in these drivers at least with BF4...

Turns out it's a thing in the game. Visceral locked it to 30fps. It's also making RTSS report a different fps to the in engine fps. Plus the game isn't respecting the fact that vsync is on.

Wth really? They locked it at 30fps? My computer could easily do 60fps++ on Ultra in this game.. Another reason not to buy this.. I'll keep playing BF4 till BF5!

Watching the video, the cut scenes appear to be locked to 30FPS.

    It's also noted here

Jarring, sure, but not a huge deal if it's only the cutscenes

I don't know, it causes the game to not look like its performing smoothly when it goes from a 30FPS cutscene to 60+ FPS instantly... I imagine the effect is much the same going from game to cutscene, seems like a dumb move to lock them on PC.

Probably laziness or lack of dev time since animating at 60 FPS is a lot more work

Yeah but if the game has a 60FPS target even on the consoles, I can't imagine many people are very happy with 30FPS cutscenes. Maybe as PC gamers we are just more sensitive to it?

Digital Foundry confirmed what I suspected--only the animations are locked to 30 FPS.

    They also said this:

So basically another heavily mo-capped game like L.A. Noire done at 30 FPS because that's what Hardline will be running at on last-gen. I guess we should at least be thankful that it's only the in-engine cutscene animation which is 30 FPS and not the whole game.

I've noticed the same with DmC: Devil May Cry (ohhh I can't get over the stupidity of that name!). It's so well optimised during gameplay with 99% locked 60fps, with max settings at native 4K - and then it switches to 30fps FMVs for select cutscenes. It's distracting for sure. Still loving the game nonetheless, I'm kicking myself for not tying it out earlier (though the 980M offers a great experience at 4K, which really makes the visuals shine).

If the cutscenes are pre-recorded I don't see how it's a big deal that they run at a lower frame rate since you're already disconnected from the game. It's super common in games anyway, especially if the FMV is live action. It's only if the cutscenes are done real-time in-engine that a lower frame rate presents a jarring experience. Maybe the solution is to go for maximum immersion and get rid of cutscenes entirely a la Half-Life. :D
