In "customize and buy" they give you two options:
    1. NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M
    2. 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS

What I'd rather have is "NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT"

The 7150M is 'dedicated/integrated' i know, it's all over this forum, but what I don't get is if its possible to upgrade to either the 8400M or 8600M after purchasing the HP dv6700z with the 7150M. (Seems as though the 8400M is not dedicated/integrated')

Can the 7150M be upgraded with a 8400M (and 8600M)?

Can the 8400M be upgraded with a 8600M?

If you purchase an integrated notebook, you will not be able to upgrade. Actually, no HP Pavilion is upgradeable from what is ordered without a complete motherboard replacement.

Why are 8600M GT's sold separately and both the 8400M and 8600M run on pci-e x16?

^What Greg said. I took apart my first generation dv6000z (AMD TL-50 + GeForce 6150 IGP) to be greeted by a spot on the motherboard with a few thousand BGA solder points on the motherboard where a GeForce 7400 was supposed to go. HP solders everything onto their motherboards, which probably explains why their notebooks are so value priced.

You are thinking about desktop video cards...laptops are highly integrated and most cannot have a lot of parts individually upgraded. CPU, RAM, HDD...that is about it.

    Thread closed.

If you would read the stickies(like this one), you would have seen that IGP(like the 7150M) cannot be upgraded and some laptops(a very small percent of laptops) can upgrade from one dedicated card to another.

Make sure you read the stickes before you post.
