I have a Sony VAOI SVE14A27CXH (full specs here https://docs.sony.com/release/specs/SVE14A27CXH_mksp.pdf) with a Radeon HD 7600M and I was hoping to upgrade to a better graphics card. I'm pretty computer illiterate when it comes to under the hood things, so I'm not even entirely positive this would be possible? I figure it should, but again, I know pretty much nothing.

What would be a recommended mid-tier upgrade for my specs? Would it have to be an AMD Radeon card or would a NVIDIA work? These are probably really stupid questions, but I'm trying to decide if it would be better to update this laptop (adding 8GB RAM too), or splurge for a newer machine.

You can't upgrade the GPU as your laptop comes with a soldered one & not MXM compatible one.

If there is another version of your laptop with better GPU, you can do a complete motherboard replacement.
