    Good Morning.

I have a Clevo D900F with a gtx 280m. I want to upgrade the graphic card and the shop which sell me the notebook tell me that the unique option I have is the gtx 480m. I dont find any thread talking about this card and I want to know is it is a great card and a good change.

    Thank you.

    Walrog.

Coming from a 280M, you will see some significant increases in performance. However, compared to the 470M and the 485M, it is known to be very inefficient at using all its performance vs. power consumption. However, since you are coming from a previous generation, it is a decent upgrade.

Well you will get a definite speed boost, but the card isn't a very good card. Remember the GF 100 based cards? The ones used in oven toasters? Or the desktop GTX 465? Well, the GTX 480M is based on that, and cut down some more. So it's both a power hog and a waste of die area. Meaning it's both ridiculously expensive and inefficient. Yes, it's faster, but it's almost EOL now.

You will be much better off getting a 6970M or a GTX 485M, which are both significantly faster than the GTX 480M and at the same time much more power efficient.

I can put a 6970M in the Clevo D900F?. I have been watching this card and I think is the best in quality and price. I will ask my seller if I can, because he told me that I can only put the gtx 480m and not the 485m. I dont know if there is a problem to put an Ati on this model.

Technically, you should be able to. However, on the NP8170, users have to get a new heatsink. Ask your seller if the heatsink for the 6970M can be bought. As long as it's a MXM 3.0 Type B, it should work...

    Take a look here: http://www.mxm-upgrade.com/D900F.html

There's some information that may help.

Thank very much for the answers. I'm going to talk with my seller to know if he can put me the 6970m.
