I have an older Alienware m7700 with the go 6800. It also has a P4 3.0 HT in it. I have 2GB DDR2 ram. I want to know if I should buy a go 7950gtx and if it would be much of a improvement over the 6800 even though I have a P4. I was thinking about upgrading to an Alienware 9750 but if the cheaper solution will work then that may be the way to go. Thanks.

Mybe you should not go through the hassle and just buy a new M9750. The M9750 actually has a very "easy" upgradeable gpu program MXM.

getting the 7950GTX will cost about $450-500.

another thing is that your particular system, Clevo D900T, requires the new motherboard revision for you to be able to upgrade past the 6800.

you can tell which motherboard revision you have by looking at the power brick... if it is 220watt, then that should be it.

will this be a significant performance boost over the 6800 or will it be useless because of my P4? Just trying to weigh the best options for myself, thanks.

your P4 should be fine, it will be a bottleneck, but not that much.

As Gophn noted make sure you have the latest motherboard revision otherwise it will be impossible to upgrade.

I personally recommend putting that money towards a new system. Your P4 is outdated and will be a significant bottleneck. Just go look at the benchmarks for Oblivion with different CPUs.

Another thing to do is to trade in your system for a new one.

Eurocom says that they will give you a trade-in value if you go through them.

Alienware has a trade in thing too. They quoted me around 350 I think and they also give you a 200 dollar bonus if you order a new product from them. Do you think that is the way to go? I posted my laptop on craigslist to see what kind of offers I would get so far the best I got was 500$ but alienware would give me 5 hundred something. I am at work and not able to check to see what other offers I have recieved, hopefully I got something better. What do you think my Alienware is worth?

Check eBay and see what similar systems are going for. Also make sure you try Eurocom and see what their trade-in price.
