Hi I recently purchased a Dell XPS M1710 i went all out and got the top package they do.
But i am starting to get worried as there is DX10 on the way i was wondering if i would be able to upgrade my graphics card from the nvidea 7900 GTX to a 8800 GTX or somthing that is compatible with DX10.
I dont know much about upgrading laptops but would i be able to just replace the old with new or is it impossible??
any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers

the dx10 would not be effectively used till the 2Q of 2008 even though the dx10 compatible cards will be relased much earlier and i personaly feel thath your current card is more than enough for another year or two and will remain whst it is......... a great gaming card about upgrading your graphic card i dont think it is possible as it is usually soldered on to your motherboard

The 7900GTX 512mb is a great card and should keep you in the game for a while, however, if Dell chooses to incorporate a high end DX10 GPU into their M1710 line in Q2, it might be possible for you to upgrade.

Yes, as everyone else has said, the Go 7900 GTX is still a veiry fast card, and will hold its own for a long time to come. I wouldn't get worried. If Dell do decide to update the graphics card, which they should, then you may be able to upgrade, but it depends on what they update to. For example, if they update to a graphics card which uses more power than the current one, a new AC adapter may be required. Also, the thermal output of the card needs to be about the same as the current one, otherwise the new graphics card will get quite warm.

Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
I seriously doubt any mid to high end DX10 cards will be available for ANY of dells current models, I believe they are only going to be released on the santa rosa platform. I could see an entry level card or two popping up, but that would be about the extent of it.
