To all of you experienced gamers,

I'm wondering if it's possible to upgrade my Lenovo SL300 for gaming. Games like Crysis, Half Life, or Call of Duty to name a few. I currently have an Intel Core 2 Duo T5870 2.0 GHz 32-bit OS, 2.0 GB RAM, and a graphics card that is obviously not good enough. Does anyone know what I need and if it's possible?

    Thanks!

You can't really make any improvments to your system to help you run modern games. The only thing you could do is just upgrade the RAM, which still won't do much.

You most likely can't change your GPU and CPU.

Is there a budget laptop out there for around $500?

The SL300 is listed to have a discrete NVIDIA GeForce 9300M 128MB option which may get some games going at low end configurations. Should be able to play some games.

It would be weak for gaming though.

Solid notebook for doing other non-gaming activities so if it meets your non gaming needs then hold onto it for awhile till better notebooks-GPU technology is available.

A good upgrade for you notebook would be the CPU IMO. That will help with everything.

    Yes there is

You can find a used P-6831FX or basically ANY P-XXXX FX laptop out there will handle those games fine (crysis... OK but not at full settings)

Find any laptop with 8600m GT (minimum) 8700m GT 8800m etc... NOTHING under 8500/9500 or else it wont be worth it...

The cpu wouldnt add performance for gaming wise. Since the gpu is the bottleneck.

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9172879&type=product&id=1218044029788 - x83vm-x2, $800, 9600m GS.

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...g50vt&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1218044029168 - G50vt-x5, $900, 9800m GS.

Those are two cheap laptops with good cards. The x83vm has a midrange card that should play those games you mentioned just fine. For 100 dollars more though the G50vt-x5 can play Crysis!

You're not really going to find a laptop with a good card under these prices, if there is it's cleverly hidden.
