So, I just recently bought the M1730, the last few before sold out. I didn't realize however that it has the 8700m GT SLI in it, so I know I won't be able to play games such as TW:Empires really well. I didn't receive it yet but I cannot change my order, nor cancel it to my expense.

I've searched for the 8800M GTX SLI and could only find pricey $700 GPU's that fit into the M1730 machine.

So, can anyone suggest an upgraded GPU for the Dell that would give increased significant performance but not too pricey? A link is not necessary but would be greatly appreciated.

    From my order service:
    CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T9300(2.5GHz, 800Mhz, 6M L2 Cache)
GPU: NVIDIA SLI Dual GeForce 8700MGT with 512MB GDDR3 Memory
    RAM: 6GB, DDR2, 800MHz 2 Dimm
Display:17 UltraSharp TrueLife Wide screen WUXGA

Oh, and how can I identify that the GPU is for laptop use?

If you don't want 8700m gpus, your best bet would be to return the system, you have 30 days to do so, after your invoice.

Dell uses proprietary connections for its gpus, so your only choice is xps 8800GTX/9800GT(same card), or xps 9800GTX. And good luck finding any of those for under $700 and actually being new, not refurb.

Yep , its better for you to return it and get something different . I bet 1730 is a nice machine but 8700Ms are so outdated . And 8800Ms and 9800Ms are either hard to find or are used/refurbished .

You can keep it as long as you are not going to play any newer games .

 you people moaning that an 8700GT sli is a massivly underpowered system , I have to make do with 1 (fx1600m) and relative to the general notebook owner that's still pretty nice.

[qoute]You can keep it as long as you are not going to play any newer games .[/quote]

I think thats verging on taking the p*ss ... it will be fine at playing newer games, maybee not at 1900*1200 but will still kick out decent frame rates at 720p+

I didnt say its not going to run newer games . I was implying that he wont be able to play them comfortably or at decent graphical settings . Lately gamers like maxing out settings in the games or try to get as close to max as possible .
