Nice find. Ill try it sometime.
-
ive been waitning for this.... gonna get it
-
OMG OMG OMG!!! haha amazing!
-
Holy JEESE I can NOT wait to get Orange Box
-
hmm it says just extract the scenes and maps then load the maps through console but does that mean you have to load every scene for every chapter? Anyone who has done this with Ep.2 successfully please let me know. Also do i have to extract the HL2:EP2 models and materials aswell?
-
Thats cool does it work for half life ep1 or 2 cause I dont wanna install HL2 again? Also, does anyone know how does portal relate to the HL story, cause I heard something about that.
-
Anyone get this working for Episode 2 yet? i can't get it to work..
-
They had to do some extensive physics editing to get the portal engine to work. I doubt it works with full functionality in the HL2.
-
But I thought the physics engine was incorporated into Episode 2?
Using the Portal gun in HL2 would make the game all new again. How fun would that be? Of course they would have to program what materials you could portal to/from. -
Played through some of it yesterday - it's pretty freakin' cool.
You can put portals on most flat surfaces, although you can get stuck sometimes.
It's actually kind of buggy - some voices (like Gman's in the beginning) and background music are missing, there's weird orange and blue halos floating around you a lot of times (they mentioned that in the article), and because you can get up to places you weren't meant to go, you can get stuck a lot.
It's really fun to play around with, but I don't think I could stand playing through the whole game that way.
Also, HL2 + motion blur = -
How do you enable motion blur in HL2? I didn't see any option for it. I know it's there for EP2, but do you have to tweak something for hl2? Thanks!
-
Because Portal uses the updated Source Engine, you get to see what HL2 looks like with motion blur when you import its maps. (you can do the same thing with any source game: HL2: DM, Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source, etc.) -

If you enable commentary in Portal you can see that they had to make substantial changes and optimizations to get portals to work without consuming too much rendering and processing power.
Apparently objects near portals use simplified collision physics, and portals do not render anything outside their line of sight. This is all to reduce the processing redundancy caused by the view a portal generates. -
I've tried using the portal gun in HL2 myself and while it was fun at first the novelty wore off pretty quick. There are quite a few glitches besides the orange/blue halo that form around Gordan's head, such as missing sound effects, no music and Gordon is invincible to all weapons. I wonder how one can transfer the audio files from HL2 to Portal?
-
WOAH! But... isnt it like cheating? lol
I remember like a year ago people where using a rip-off of portal... basically a copy... people would shoot one on a sheet of steel and then under a bridge and the steel would get stuck at the 2nd hole...
Well... anyways... I think this may be an indication to HL3!!!!!!!!!! not portal in hl2 but just the game portals and hl2:ep2
Use the portal gun through Hl2
