So I recently picked up an external monitor (the PS 3D Display) for my laptop. I've set up 3D Vision in the Nvidia Control Panel, and when I test the 3D from there, the 3D works perfectly. I can't seem to figure out how to get it to run in games, though. I tried it on Civ V and LA Noire (both 3D Vision-compatible games), but neither of them had options enabling it.
What am I missing? Do I need the special 3D Vision glasses, or will the Sony ones that came with the monitor work just fine?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

many games do not have 3d built in, the computer has a hard time converting games in real time because either it reduces the quality or uses twice as much memory... I think

You need a special software to get 3d working in these games.
The 3d test application will work independently if you have that software or not.
You need Nvidia 3dtv Play, grab it here an install it: NVIDIA® 3DTV Play.
Install the last update released here: NVIDIA DRIVERS 1.0.0.44.
Then reboot and it should now work in those games that supports 3d.
To enable the full options menu using 3dvision you need an hacked monitor driver available here: http://blog.bagearon.com/downloads/NVIDIA-UN-3DTV.inf.
You need to manual install the monitor driver under device manager, right click-> update drivers, then manually select the hacked monitor driver.
Once you reboot go into Nvidia control panel and now you should be able to mess with 3d settings slider along the possibility to enable other 3dvison hotkey features such real time adjustments, like convergence and parallax.
    Hope it helps.

The problem is not with the games, but with the compatibility of the Sony PS3 monitor and NVidia 3D vision. There is a work around to get it to work.

i even found a workaround for passive 3d tvs, where you dont even need to buy the stupid 3d tv play, you just trick the computer into thinking a certain monitor is attached, zalman something, and it enables 3d vision, and it runs up to 60hz and is lag free, unlike the stacked 1080p which is really slow.

This.... "3.Install the latest 3D VISION usb emitter driver" 4.Plug in your usb emitter and confirm the recognition of the device and associated drivers

The workaround is for the TVs with the Nvidia 3d vision kit. But the OP is talking about the display which has its own 3d glasses ( not the Nvidia 3d vision kit).
I also recently got the PS 3d Display. I simply installed the 3dtv play and it enabled the 3d in mine. But after 14 days, it will have the overlay of the prototype message which already have a fix.
It was working fine with mine unless I tried it after a week. And now, even if the stereoscopic is on, it doesn't turn on 3d. I must have messed up something.

Minnesota eh. I'm from St. Louis Park originally.

Did you get the monitor from Best Buy for $199? I was contemplating one, but heard a lot of problems with them. The price dropping that much in so many months after release also put up a red flag. But the BB 4 year warranty for $29.99 could make me bite.

Do you think the monitor is worth purchasing? I also have a PS3 collecting dust.

yeah. I got it from BB. Until now, it looks ok. The thing about this display is that it tends to turn off itself when it doesnt get an input. So, to resume to it, you need to be in the same input or it won't turn on. Also, all the controls are on the back which kind a sucks. It lacks a remote but you can get one from amazon for 19.99 or something. The display is nice and 3d works great. Either 1080p/24hz or 720/60hz. Don't fall for the 240 hz as you can't even get 120hz in non 3d. For $199, this display is a steal specially after I got the powerdvd 12. Most of my 2d movie collection looks gorgeous.

    Super bump!

So my computer hadn't been working until tday and I hadn't gotten to try this (my hard drive died right after making this thread), but now I've gotten around to doing this.
I've gotten to the part where I need to install the hacked driver, but the link is just text. I'm probably just stupid, but even if I downlod it, how exactly do I make it an actual driver rather than just text? I haven't worked with hacked drivers much before :p

Thanks to anyone who can help! :)

You need to "save target as" and you'll get a inf file.
Its preety much useless for your display anyway. I already pointed out that its for the displays with the nvidia 3d vision kit but not with the display's own 3d system.

I broke down and purchased the PS3 3D Display. Got it and the 4 year warranty with expedited shipping and was here 2 days later. I love it.

I have an HD cable box , so that has a remote to turn it on and volume control. I also use a $6 Porta HDMI switch that will change to whatever gets powered up, and also has a remote.

The Sony glasses did not work on my Nvidia 3D laptop, but haven't tried the nVidia's on the PS3 or tried to play 3D from PC on it. I just use it as a TV mostly.
