So I wanted to try and play MW3 with a 360 controller via Steam. According to steams' support website each game has it's own special joystick interface configuration that you need to type into a .txt file and place it in the /cfg/ folder of the individual game.
This is the article if you wanna check it out.

Have any of you played MW3 or another shooter on steam using a 360 controller and if so do you know what the "joystick interface configuration" code thingy is? Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance.

since you mentioned "...or another shooter": yes, i play Battlefield 3 on PC with an Xbox 360 wireless controller. i didn't do any manual configuration though; it was picked up by the game just fine. BUT, Battlefield 3 is not a Steam game anyway!

This thread is full of BLASPHEMY
So you have the 360 controller working now?
Friends do not let friends play first person shooters on PC with a controller, if you really care about them you shall immediately burn them as a witch for they have already lost there humanity and fallen to the dark side -

I use a controller for anything that's not a multiplayer shooter. I use a PC because my 6950 owns the crap out of an Xbox/PS3. Flame suit on.

Not sure why Steam would make a difference (I can't get tot he support article as I am at work and it's blocked), if a game supports the 360 controller it should just work. With Skyrim I can just connect the controller (I use the wireless one) and the game automatically switches to that control scheme.

The title of the article you posted is: "Using an XBox 360 Controller with Source Games"
Unfortunately, this has nothing to do with modern warfare 3. Modern warfare 3 has no support for the xbox 360 controller. You can still get it working by using 3rd party software, like xpadder. -

I strongly recommend Pinnacle Game Profiler. You can have as many custom schemes as you want, and it will auto-detect which game you're playing and automatically apply the correct control scheme. When I'm not playing a game, it lets me use the controller to navigate Windows as well. Works well enough for most HTPC use and to launch games.

lol your avatar makes that statement so much more funny for some reason.

Mouse & Keyboard FTW -
Baka supports the above notion.
Mouse & Keyboard FTW. Though controllers are fine for certain games.
Though Baka does not agree on viking eating cats -
I use a wired XBox 360 controller without doing anything special in my Steam games.

M&K FTW here too! Death to controllers! Thumbs are dumb!

Controllers re all fine and good in racing, arcade games and 3rd person games like assassins creed, however if you're playing FPS then it would be a sin to use one.
Each input has it's advantages, a mouse is good at replicating a point/tap input (moving your hand from point to point quickly and accurately), while a controller is good at providing a steady rate for whatever you're controlling.
I would liken playing an FPS with a mouse to just pointing at someones head, with a controller it would be more like trying to point at someones head with a ten foot long bamboo cane. At least that's what it feels like to me. -
Flying the Fighter Jets in Battlefield 3 is a must with the Controller - but for everything else please refer to the 'spoiler' mentioned above!
