If this is true -- their are several articles, tweets, ESEA leaks as well, then this could be HUGE! According to the rumor they are to reveal the new Counter Strike 'Global Offensive' at this years Gamescon (17-21 Aug).
Is Valve Releasing a New Counter-Strike Game?
Anyone else here anything about this ? It is pretty much a suprise to everyone in the CS & CSS community.
-
The massive CS community will not be happy about this...
-
I don't think they'll be unhappy as such, they'll just have increadibly high expectations. If it doesn't cut it or it has different movement dynamics then they'll hate it.
God help us if it has perks though... -
EDIT: It's official.
Personally, I'm super excited about this. Like that article said -- it's not HL3/Episode 3, but it's the next best thing! -
Where does the Global Offensive part come from? Looks like the same game again.
-
In other words. <-true story.
-
crazy stuff.
-
I hope it at least includes a new engine (maybe at least a heavily modified Source engine).
If no new engine, then I see no point. -

If the gameplay mechanics aren't vastly different and it ends up being another twitch shooter like CSS then no thanks.
It's very hard for newcomers to adapt to games like CSS nowadays, all the longtime players have gotten too good at the VERY predictable game mechanics. -
-
I can't wait for this, been a CS and CSS player since pretty much the beggining of both games.
I hope the competitive scene is looked at better this time around than it was with CSS. -
Awesome. Very nice indeed if it is somehow a bit different than the previous version because that means I can *perhaps* have a chance against those sick skilled people.
-
Please, it need to be with a new engine and after that will finally come the Episode 3.
Okay, I KNOW... I KNOW....

Darn. If I would have known there would be a free lunch, I would have shown up
-
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
So Mr. Newell just gave them HIS lunch. Boy... he must be on strict diet. Wants to fit in shape by the tome Valve releases new CS
-
I really want a game engine too. I don't want a CS:Source just with updated graphics, new maps, and some new guns. It has to have a new feel. Keep it a twitch shooter but make it new ... but not like CoD of course.
-
Oh god, they're releasing it on consoles. CS community won't like that one bit, especially if it's dumbed down and cumbersome simply to make console owners happy.
-
I really like the fact that both CSS's and CS 1.6 engines aren't as much demanding on PCs. It's the accessibility and quickness of getting in and out of a game. I go on every day for a quick game because I hate long load times. CS 1.6, no excuse for crappy hardware to play unless you still play a PC you got back more than 10 years ago.
-
Let's hope they don't 'streamline' this too much or make it too 'accessible'. No CODification should ever taint the realm of CS.
It should be a straight-up graphical improvement / more game modes / more weapons game, with slight gameplay tweaks but no major changes to the core gameplay that carries over from CS1.6/Source. -
Yeah I hope this is something more so for the competetive community. By that I mean they fix a lot of the ongoing bugs and reg issues that are plaguing CSS at the moment - the biggest being the 66 tick servers and lag compensation.
it better be a twitch shooter, and build on CS and CSS. If it does it will be a game that will be played FAR past the first 3-4 months that BAD COMPANY 3 will ( lets face it BF is dead and BC is born).
Another 5-10 years worth of competitive twitch shooting anyone? Count me in. -
Don't worry guys, vALVE has never disappointed me like Bioware and I doubt they will. I hope this game won't touch Consoles.
It definitely needs a new engine, no exception. But the core gameplay should stay the same, like the movement from CS 1.6 to CS:CZ to CSS.
And god, add some gore like Left 4 Dead vALVE. -
OOOO cant wait!
