Hello everybody! I'm just a fellow gamer whose major spheres of interest are Metal Gear Solid, Touhou and, you guessed it, Ace Combat.

This isn't a presentation topic, as it'd be pointless. What I noticed is that apparently ( though I may be wrong ), nobody here, on an english-speaking gaming community forum, has yet heard of Vector Thrust.
This is halfway comprehendable and silly, as an gaming laptop themed forum board, it'd be obvious, but seeing the young age of Vector Thrust, I can understand.

Well, what's Vector Thrust? It's a homage, indie, PC-born game that has everything an AC game would expect, yet clearly writes on itself "Totally Not An Ace Combat Clone". The differences are barely noticeable.

This particular game doesn't have an ace in the sleeve of using cell shading, but by something much deeper and meaningful, something that I felt it would be a shame not sharing it with everybody: The game's moddable down to the blood.

It is exactly the usual single-player, fast-paced, exageratedly military themed archetype that's shared with Ace Combat, though, science-fiction assets like SuperWeapons, Flying Fortresses, and dreamscape-y Fighters like the ADF-01 Falken/ADFX-01 Morgan/Fenrir/etc etc, remain to be seen, yet...

...Except, due to it being moddable, this isn't really a problem. The developpers are proudly regularly insisting on how this game will be moddable on every side. It's using the Ogre Engine, which is already a good start, but claim it'd be possible to add custom paint schemes, entire planes ( though basically an .ini file; modelling is a different story ), entire campaigns, and pretty much everything we need for a Strangereal plotlike conversion.

I'm not a modder but, I've got huge hopes of one day making my way to build my own storyline on this game. It's almost openly meaning it, and frankly, who who once played Ace Combat hasn't dreamed of his own storyline to challenge? Or custom planes, or whatever?

About the game itself; few is known yet. The classic missiles we know are all there, most of them at least, from SAAM, QAAM, XMAA, well, pretty much everything we already know how to use. We still have no idea if the game's gonna be set on Earth, or another parallel clone like Strangereal. I wish i could output more information, but it's really scarce.

The devs definitely are actively working on it, but don't communicate much. The last RSS Feed Entry I have is dated from January 6th and reveals some details about ground units. They still are doing great work it seems, and the modding potential is haunting my imagination, teasing it.
The fact the project's not complete and they haven't communicated any release date yet, globally means "When It's Done" ( though, even the game that invented the When It's Done is now Done. ). There aren't any gameplay videos up yet, and all we have for now is to deconstruct and interpret pictures to analyze the details.

This is what I wished to share with everyone here, because I felt bad at the sight of everybody here never having heard of it.

I don't wish to forcefully take credit for this discovery; news eventually travel, and I'm no exception.

Note: The screenshots I put there are from ModDB which hosts the project's page, and also are alpha screenshots. THe result's probably much more advanced by now.

It's pretty. I'll give it that much. I love the infinite sea look. Something about the flight in the demo videos just wasn't random enough, like it needs a bit of jitter. I'll be keeping an eye on it now, thanks.

This looks so EXCELLENT! Whee! Thanks +1! :D

So when will it be available to play?

Reminds me of the good ol' Jane's USNF / USAF / IAF days.

edit: There is a video: http://www.moddb.com/games/vector-thrust/videos/vector-thrust-pre-alpha-gameplay-19-01-12

Although it's so arcade not sure if I'm as excited now. :( I like at least SOME realism. Level of USNF / USAF are perfect. I like it even if you have to fly back to get more ammo, even if you carry an unusually high amount of ammo, at least you run out eventually. A semi-real flight model with a cockpit view would be great.

Reminds me of Ace Combat Shattered Skies. Nice to see the Russian Su-47 Berkut with the forward swept wings.

is it just weird that I wanted to see if I can mod it with some macross/robotech planes in there?

I miss the macross games a lot, hopefully they should release one soon enough, the dynamics of those game are... mind blowing, multi missiles, crazy maneuvers... yeah loved those ;)

    I dunno, author says TBD

It's fully moddable, I don't know how to mod it though. Game isn't even released yet
