Ok, now while i realize that the best benchmark is actual in game performance, i believe there is something up when i get half the score i should get.
I have the laptop in my sig, stock clocks, and 169.09.
Any ideas as to the cause of this? I ran it after a restart and closing most of the programs i dont use and disabling extra services.

Hi, did you buy the full version of 3Dmark06? (not that it matters).
Try downloading CPU-Z or GPU-Z. Cathy had the same problem and she solved it by realizing her clocks on her CPU were down sized to 1/2. Although your CPU scored high, i think the GPU might be the issue here.
Try getting newer drivers 174xx version -
Something is really wrong here. I have almost identical hardware and get at least 3800 with those drivers.
Hmm...it could be your power management settings in Vista. Make sure it is set to "High Performance" and your system is plugged in. Otherwise, you might try out the 169.25 drivers after uninstalling your previous nvidia drivers (make sure to uninstall them before installing new drivers).
Make sure the system isn't overheating and downclocking as a result.
Otherwise...it could be possible that your GPU is faulty, but that is somewhat unlikely unless you are seeing visual artifacts and image corruption in 3DMark. -
When i downloaded 3Dmark06, i didnt get to choose the resolution and stufff. Am i the only one with the trial?
-
How does the GPU perform in actual gaming? If its underperforming like 700pts then theres something wrong.. but if its performing the way it should just ignore
Try a change of drivers or something. Also make sure you restart before and close unneccesary programs when running 3dmark06
You the only one that has the trial. I bet everyone else is using illegal reg keysahem ahem..
-
Ok Im confused
, i ran it again and got about the same score. So i restarted, ran it again and...
btw, gaming seemed a bit sluggish, and my power settings were on high performance. -
run it again a few more times..

My first suggestion would have been to make sure your computer wasn't on power saver but you said you checked that plus looks like ypur cpu is too high for that to be the problem anyway. I would recommend a driver change and then running 3dmark. If you check these comments you can see where some people are reporting that some drivers mess up the powermizer settings and downclocks their card no matter what. So change drivers and if its still a problem I would consider that your gpu is faulty.

Edit: Or better yet if that driver allows it (never used it so not sure) look in the nvidia control panel where you can overclock and see what the clocks are set at right now. -
Are 174.74 stable and overclockable?
-

I used 174.70, which I believe is about the same as 174.74, at one point and it allowed overclocking if I remeber correctly but for my 8800gts every once in a while I would get the display adapter has stopped working error. Also note that I'm not suggesting overclocking just pointing out that driver forced low clocks might be the problem and that the nvidia control panel is an easy way to check the clocks....if your card is faulty overclocking will only make it worse.
-
Well, i asked about ocing because i mean to at some point in time regardless.
So I ran it again and i got a very similar result.
Also this question is a bit off topic, but, does anyone have any idea why my Nvidia Control Panel looks different than halfhalo's?

In my expierence different drivers have slightly different options in the control panel. Halfhalo's looks exactly like mine where as the one you posted either doesn't support/have overclocking or you need to change a setting that allows you to see the advanced options.
Once again I suggest you change your driver and see if it fixes your problem. -
Nvidia Ntune...

Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
Have you messed around much in your NV control panel? If your forcing high AA/AF that could easily explain your problems.
-
Well...the first thing I can suggest would be to check your clocks. I use RMClock & ATITool, unfortunately ATITool doesn't work so well in Vista. You could use nTune in that case. If everything's running fine at the proper clock speeds, run 3DMark06 again. If your score is still crap, try using different drivers. 169.04 & 174.74 work well for most people.
3549 is an 'okay' score I guess. A little bit on the weak side though. Good luck. -
Ok, so now ive updated to 174.74 and when i restarted i got a driver crash error..but everything worked fine
So now i get significantly better results. -
Fretting over 3DMark is pointless. If your games run fine, there's nothing to worry about.
-
Usually when 3dmark06 is that low (half a normal score) something is amiss.
Keep in mind 3dmark06 is just a DX9 benchmark that runs DX9 game-like scenes.
worrying about 30-50 points is not an issue, but 1500+ 3dmark06 marks means something wasn't up to snuff.
and he did say his gaming was sluggish too. -
-
You said it was a bit slow, not 2x as slow in-game.
I just think 3DMark is a scam. It's just a way of getting people anxious about their computer's performance (and purchase new computers). -
3.9k's a good score though if you haven't overclocked.

Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
3dmark is a good tool when used as intended, where things get dicey is when cooked drivers come out to enhance the score, or individuals who measure their self worth/manhood over how high their score is, when 3d mark is the most imprtant application for your rig....somthing is amiss. Its a synthetic test that can be useful in identifying a problem,, my take on it is, if your in the ballpark over several comsecuitive runs, its job is done, and its time to concentrate on real world apps.

Scored 3.8k 3dMark06 no overclock with 174.93 driver on the laptop in my sig. I'm liking 174.93 driver so far so I suggest you give it a try and see how much your score gains.
-
Maybe ill try 174.93 after some more reviews on it, but if youre scoring 3.8k with that then hopefully its pretty good.
-
Ok, after running 3dMark again, from idle (72C which is high but normal) i got 4k
and after running it again from load (96C which is again high but normal) i got 3.6k. Im taking it this means i need cool it down a bit for maximum performance?
Very Low 3dMark06 Score
