 Hi all. I'm currently on the verge to buy a notebook ( my first ), but one question continues to nag me : do all notebooks have video memory shared with the RAM ? So far, all notebooks I saw shared their total memory with the video. Which ones have separate video memory and RAM ?
    Thanks

    Hi there,

    Three types:

    * All shared, as found with most integrated GPU's
    * Partially dicrete, partially shared. Basically, when the GPU requires more memory, it borrows from main RAM but it resorts to it's 'own' RAM first. Key words: TurboCache and Hypermmemory
    * All discrete, mainly found on high end GOU's.

if all your research has been in stores like best buy or circuit city, then yes, you'll probably only find low-end graphics solutions. most manufacturers sell via a website as well. take plenty of time to research all the choices.

your best bet is to fill out the 'what should i buy' questionnaire in the "What Notebook Should I Buy?" forum.
