i have a 1280*800 screen and run everything on high, except for AA and AF, but would turn them on, though. Everything seems to run pretty smooth, didn't use fraps, so there is a chance that i'm not getting 30fps lol

You put everything on high? You have the same card and driver version as me?

I see alot of people saying it runs great at 1280x1024 max settings, sorry guys but that's not true, if it were, it'd place it above my X1800XT desktop (which manages nicely at those settings but its vastly more powerful then 8600mGT). I don't what is it, or why, but lately there's a certain culture of grossly overestimating or downright lying about the power of your card....

Havok I agree with you on this, ever since the 8600m GT came into the picture it seems like they are like a saviour who beats the 7800GTX or the 7900gs for example, which isn´t true. The 8600GT is a mid range card not in the high range. I must agree withy you on this, either people are just grossly over exaggerating or plain out lying at their performance of the card.
Actually it is really easy for people to find out how the card performs instead of listening to people lying about it. Just take a look at a desktop performance chart of the 8600GT for instance and see how it perform there in the games and you´ll see lots of people outright lie about their performance in games
