How much should i set my virtual memory too with the laptop i got below? now i got 512 minimum and 1024 max. i want best possible performance
-
If you have the space I suppose you would want to go for 1024 just because you don't have much RAM in the first place.
-
Set the min and max both to 4GB. If you are running Vista, I recommend upgrading to 2GB of RAM as soon as you can, the performance will be increased hugely.
-
Try ReadyBoost as well, you'll see a good improvement as well.
-
What is readyboost and are my virtual settings like this okay? when i used 256/512 first i got a message saying i was low on virtual memory while i played games
-
Let it manage itself.. but if it gives you virtual memorry error then manually put it higher depending on how much hard drive space you have
-
i see but it was a lot higher but i read the laptop will operate faster when u turn it down so i turned it to 256/512 but now its 512/1024. When i bought the laptop i think it was on 700//1700 or something
-
Just let Windows manage it. -
what u mean it run out of memory? can i delete it and clear it?

Just a heads up this VM talk could more correctly be called Pagefile talk. The VM is made up of the physical memory (RAM)+ pagefile (HDD)=VM. The VM allows applications to see and access memory as if it was contiguous not fragmented as it is in reality the OS handles this magic trick. Applications require the memory to be arranged together so easier to trick them than actually put the data together.
And yes just let Windows manage pagefile. There is an old expression, if you have to ask then maybe you shouldn't do.
