Upon finding the deal of the summer on a Sony headset, at least as far as I'd like to call it(also, sorry I cannot mention where I saw the deal for risk of quantity running out), I have to seriously reconsider trading my new P150EM for a desktop virtual reality setup. While I could keep this and go ahead with the setup, that would be irresponsible for my budget so I do have to test myself on this note. Maybe somebody has experience with this particular setup, as now I am quite intrigued by the thought of fully-immersive gaming.
The crown jewel of the my virtual reality trifecta would be the Sony HMZ-T1 headset (which is basically dual .7" OLED inside futuristic goggles that are supposed to simulate staring at a 3D 150" display from twelve feet away), the main claim to fame here would be its ability to block out the rest of an environment to become completely front-and-center on content. This would be accompanied by Razer's motion-control me-too PC Hydra controllers, which are best-described as improved versions of the Wii and PlayStation Move controllers. It is a shame that more developers have not embraced 1:1 motion tracking as it can greatly improve gameplay (very few games support this), although any game can be configured for use at a basic level that would simply replace some buttons with simple gestures. Completing this would be my P150EM or a gaming desktop.
If you wanted to go a step further, you could add TrackIR's head-tracking solution so you can physically look around a game world with the headset. There are also vibrating vests if you really wanted to experience the full gamut of gunshots, though I will not go that far.
My main worry is that the Sony headset will be as blurry as the store model I had thirty seconds to try without adjusting to my liking, though reviews rebuke that qualm. I may just put my Kuro plasma to good use instead, although I would imagine the glasses going a step further in immersion - and I am still worried about burn-in.
Does anybody on here have a killer virtual reality setup they'd like to throw into the ring? Multi-monitor setups can be quite effective as they actually can extend a view of the game world though those require a desktop, laptops struggle with all those pixels.
Not ready to give up on the prospect of sitting in a chair awkwardly playing with motion controls while wearing a huge headsetso I am seriously considering this, especially since I have grown apart from traditional game controls.
