I'm a pretty decent gamer, however I'm in a delimna right now. I know DX 10 hasn't picked up that much yet for gaming, but as time goes by there will be... would it be a complete waste of money to purchase a gaming laptop with a high end dx9 card in it, or should I wait until near the end of the summer when more products support the new dx10 games for the future?

I'm asking because I'm not sure if there would be a way to play dx 10 games with a dx9 card. Thanks for your replies in advance.

Many DX10 games will also support a DX9 mode for some time...you just won't get the eye-candy. That being said, a DX10 exclusive game would not run...but AFAIK no games like that are being planned.

If you can wait, then there may be DX10 cards that are as powerful as high end DX9 cards right now.

why arent any dx10 exclusive games being planned atm? No market for it yet? Or would they want a dx9 mode to get the most people they can get since its common ground atm?

DX9 is common ground, and if it were DX10 only the number of sales would be really low.

    Ok, ty =)

Didnt know if I should grab an E1705, dv9000t, dv65000t, or just to wait out more Santa Rosa platform notebooks to come out =) Think I'll do the latter since I don't need one for 2 months.

Most people still have a 6600 GT or equivalent card. Only 5-10% of people have dx10 hardware. For game company to create a dx10 exclusive game right now would be suicide.

Don't expect to see any DX10 exclusive games released until at least 2010.
I don't even know of any that are in development now, or any developers *considering* making a DX10 exclusive game. It's going to be years before DX10 hardware is common enough to justify DX10 exclusive games...
(Hell, it's only in the last year or two that games have started requiring a shader-capable GPU at all. And almost all games will still run with DX8 hardware.)

I bet it will be very late 2008 or 2009 that games will become DX10 only. 8800GTX is the best card, the ULTRA is an overclocked GTX pretty much which you can buy third party like ones (of the GTX) for £100 less.

^^ that is for desktops. for notebooks however, i think the 8600mt(something like that) is the current but the 8700mt is coming out pretty soon.

I would suggest you check out the Compal IFL90 as well as the new Dell Inspirons... Compal should start shipping at the end of the month and Dell hasn't even started allowing you to order.

8800 Ultra... or 8600M GT if you're talking about laptops.

I also think dx10 games exclusively won't be out for a very long time..

Long enough for you to probably get a new laptop by then.
