I've read these forums enough to know that vista is almost certain to impact XP game performance, my question is whether the performance hit is bigger for Vista x86 basic compared to Vista ultimate or home premium. From my own research the only thing stopping me from buying the OEM x64 Ultimate version is the infancy of 64-bit drivers and less advanced backward compatibility.

I would assume there is little to no difference gaming performance between the different Vista packages. I haven't heard otherwise.

Between the Vista versions there should be no gaming differences, so get whatever version you want.

If I were you I would stick with Windows XP.
