Ever sinced i installed vista sp1 rc (or whatever its called) ive been getting this lag issue in Counter Strike Source.
like, every 30 seconds or so the whole thing will freeze for a millisecond and then unfreeze. its very annoying in firefights as you usually die.......![]()
using 169.13 drivers, and had no probs with them before sp1. anyone else getting this issue?
-
Uninstall SP1? It is still Beta.
-
It's probably not because of this, BUT do a defrag, SP1 RC1 moves, copies, deletes, modifies and creates lots of files, and because of that the disk will get heavily fragmented.
Try running a defrag. And DO NOT use Vista's built-in defragger
Report back if it helps! -
I've actually experienced this in TF2 since the SP1 update, except for me it's much more severe than a "millisecond" every "30 seconds". A computer restart tends to do the trick. Standby seems to cause the problem.

@RaiseR RoofeR:
If your question is about another defragmenter, you can try the JKDefrag, which is for free. -
use auslogics.

O&O Defrag
Or my favourite:
Ultimate Defrag It's not as shiny and noob friendly as the others, but highly customizable -
My vote's for O&O, it is simply awesome!

Maybe it's just TF2. I'm getting better fps with UT3 and no problems with multiplayer lag using SP1.
-
err. im gunna look stupid now, but my lag wasnt from sp1?
it was from "I8kfangui", a program that lets u manually control your fans.... well anyway i did uninstall SP1 and changed drivers about 1000 times.... now i just feel stupid.
gunna invest in a cooler instead of playing with the system fans -

I second (and third) all the O&O defragger recommendations.
-
Grabbed O&O pro and did a defrag under "Complete - Name" according to "Gaming" preferences, however after it was done I did it again JUST to see that the drive was done through-and-through but the program went all over again and said it would take 3 hours!
