Sigh, haven't we been through this before like a hundred times. DX10.1 is not compatible with the 8 series hardware, but the service pack still is. That article is horribly written too, don't believe everything you read. .1=means not much of an improvement, it just adds mandatory settings (the article got something right). DX10.1 is backwards compatible with dx10 hardware.

Don't make me bump that thread back up.

Old news, atop of that, it's already been confirmed that DX10.1 WILL be compatible will DX10, meaning DX10 cards can run ALL DX10.1 games.

Also, the commentors are morons, most people don't buy an 8800 video card because it's DX10, they buy it because it's 2x faster than the 7900 at just a little more.

:/ dx10.1 has some new features, very small changes that the new hardware will support and the old stuff wont. but all the stuff will be compatible both ways.

BREAKING NEWS: New software due to be released! The world shakes with fear as all existing software is guaranteed to become instantly useless and obsolete!

Let's hope they don't get into this habit of actually updating software... Just because they've done that from DirectX1 to 10 so far, is no excuse for still bringing us improvements!
We want to stay with DirectX 6.0 forever!
    Right?

It's a file type, .inf. It's short for "information' and it contains (surprise) information about driver settings and a list of supported cards - which is why Laptopvideo2go has a custom one, because they add mobile video cards to the .inf.

To the OP: What all of them ^^^ said.
