So I have a Dell XPS m1530 with Vista Ultimate and two months ago I completely reinstalled my OS due to bugging issues...and now I can't play any of my games. When I first got my laptop from Dell, it ran The Witcher and Oblivion without any errors whatsoever, but now an hour or so into the game, my computer will freeze up with "The Witcher has stopped working" or "Oblivion has stopped working." I've downloaded all the latest drivers and recently updated Service Pack 1 and now I'm really scratching my head over what to do.

And yeah, I've tried running it as Windows XP w/SP2 and administrator.

Your help would be much appreciated!

How recently did you reinstall the OS? In my experience almost every game crashes once or twice after it is installed on Vista, but most games quit crashing after that. And do you have UAC enabled? Some games have issues with if it's enabled when you install them and disabled when you play them, or disabled when you install them and enabled when you play it.

You may want to try the SP2 beta. I doubt it'll help, but it's worth a try. As a last resort, since you have Vista Ultimate you could downgrade to XP Pro for free. I know there's plenty of XPS 1530 XP driver guides around here on the Dell XPS subforum, so running XP shouldn't be a problem.

Don't actually know anyone who plays those games on Vista, so I can't help with any potential game-specific issues.
