    Hi,

I have a dv2000 series laptop with Vista 32bit, 2gb ram, NVidia Geforce Go 7200.

My problem is Call of Duty 2!!!!

It won't run on my computer. The error is Direct X Fatal errror which is unrecoverable.

I presume it is something to do with the driver and my video card.

I have searched the internet for drivers for the Geforce Go 7200.
I have tried downloading the Graphics driver for the 7 series for Vista 32. The error message is Windows Vista (32 Bit) is not your operating system.

I then also tried downloading 64 bit version
the errror message was then Windows Vista (64 Bit) is not your operating system.

I have even tried downloading the latest Geforce Go 7200 from the HP website, this does not work either.

So I have got something that doesn't work right! is it Vista, the Driver, directX, or is my laptop rubbish?

Any help guys cos I'm pulling my hair out!

Also remember to exit Sidebar and change your Windows theme to Classic when playing games.

In DirectX 9 mode, I doubt it would be a pretty sight. In order to run CoD2 comfortably on a Go7200 you would have to use DirectX 7 mode.

Comeon now, it’s not a half bad card. It’s a hell of a lot better than most intergraded cards we're seeing in laptops. I haven't used a notebook with a Go 7200, but I'm guessing the performance is a little bellow the Go 7300. For light weight notebooks, it’s still a better alternative than an Intel chipset and has enough power for some modern games.

    Specifications
    performance class: 4
    series: GeForce Go 7000
    codename: G72M
    pipeline: 4 pixel-pipelines and 3 vertex-pipelines
clock: chip: 450 MHz, memory: 350 MHz
memory: DDR-3, maximum upgrade: 64MB, bus: 32Bit, Turbocache
    directX: 9c, Shader Model 3.0
features: PureVideo, + 192 MB TurboCache (from RAM) = ges. 256 MB
application area: small and light-weight notebooks
    other infos: 90nm, 112 Mio transistors, PCI-E

    Benchmarks
Here you find a list with approximative benchmark values, which can be achieved with this video card. The values can strongly deviate due to different hardware (processor, memory).

download directx redist , vista doesnt include a full directx9 as its emulated, so some games fail to start and give a dx error

    Download

and areo turns off automatically when a full screen app is lauched

You can go into the options in-game and change the render mode.

    Hey Everyone.

Why switch to classic mode and disable the sidebar for playing games?????

I really like the new layout of Vista and the sidebar.

SUNN, where do i extract the files to from the download link you gave me???

CHAZ, I can't actually find the Driver for the NVidia Geforce Go 7200. Or is it just the Windows Vista driver I should be downloading from the links in those driver instructions you showed me? If that is the case how do i find out whether my laptop has 32bit or 64bit Vista?

On the back of the Call of Duty Case its says recommended nVidia Geforce 7 series or higher. I presume the NVidia Geforce Go 7200 is this series. Please tell me if I am wrong though.

Sorry for so many question guys.

You lot are a great help!!!! I don't know what I would do without this site and its users.

Yes it is Geforce 7 series but it is very low end of that spectrum, probably around the desktop 7100 - Games might recommend the 'Geforce 7 series' but in reality they mean mid to high end cards in that bracket. Nonetheless it is capable of running COD2 fine, but not at anything reaching good settings. COD2 is a brilliantly scalable engine though. It actually runs on the TNT2 Ultra. That that is old....

Because, the Vista theme and Sidebar will bring down you performance. While you’re in game, both Sidebar and visually hungry Vista theme will be still running and thus eating up your resources. I'm not suggesting you use Classic theme as your only theme, rather suggesting you switch your theme to Classic + exit sidebar, WHEN playing games. When finished you can easily switch back to whatever theme you were using.

anywhere, then browse to that folder and run the setup

again Aero turns off automatically, there no performance hit, not sure about the sidebar A Linky

i tried all the methods so far.

I have downloaded the latest vista drivers from laptopvideo2go.

i have tried reninstalling directX from microsoft.

and I tried that download you gave me SUNN.

    nothing has worked so far!!!!!!

I guess it has to be an incompatibilty issue with Vista.

Does anyone have any new ideas???

I still havn't had a driver which has been specifically created for my Geforce Go 7200. I simply havn't found one.

Also does any one know if it is possible to upgrade the graphics card in my laptop? (hp dv2000 series).

    Cheers

No, it's because it is a laptop. Very few are upgradeable, and none of the HPs are.

I would make an educated guess that none of the modified .INF files contain the Go7200 so that's why you can't install any drivers.

Try doing a Microsoft Update and see if you can get drivers that way.
