    There really isn't any point to it unless you have a DX11 capable graphics card and a game that supports DX11, which is only a couple at this point. And no laptops can currently support DX11.

    Currently there are no games that support DX11, and your 9800m GS does not support it either.

    Edit: Posted at same time.

    Some games? Care to name them? (I'm curious).

    It's available as a separate download. The link was on Engadget, Ars or one of those tech blogs

    None of my games takes advantage of DX11

    It wasn't as big of a ground breaking release as DX5.2

    BattleForge had a patch released to support DX11 and Stalker: Call of Pripyat also supports it.

    There is also a game engine called UniEngine which has a benchmark DX11 card owners can run.

    A friend of mine has a DX11 card, as says the Unigine Heaven demo looks gorgeous in DX11.

    Don't forget Dirt 2 will support DX11 when it (finally) comes out in December.

    Of course, I was only mentioning currently released games. I'm curious to see the difference between the DX11 PC version and console versions. I hope DX11 with Dirt 2 will have a noticeable difference unlike many games from DX9 to DX10 where its hardly noticeable.

    First off the Platform update is more than just adding DX11 runtimes to the OS. So people who do not upgrade are only HURTING themselves.

    As per Wikipedia

    Platform Update

    The Platform Update for Windows Vista was released on October 27, 2009. It includes major new components that shipped with Windows 7, as well as updated runtime libraries.[79][80] It requires Service Pack 2 of Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 and is on Windows Update as a Recommended download.

    The Platform Update allows application developers to target both Windows Vista and Windows 7. It will consist of the following components:
    Windows Graphics runtime: Direct2D, DirectWrite, Direct3D 11, DXGI 1.1, and WARP;
    Updates to Windows Imaging Component;
    Updates to XPS Print API, XPS Document API and XPS Rasterization Service;
    Windows Automation API (updates to MSAA and UI Automation); (will also be available on Windows XP)
    Windows Portable Devices Platform; (adds support for MTP over Bluetooth and MTP Device Services)
    Windows Ribbon API;
    Animation Manager Library.

    Some updates will also be available as separate releases for both Windows XP and Windows Vista:
    Windows Management Framework: Windows PowerShell 2.0, Windows Remote Management 2.0, BITS 4.0
    Remote Desktop Connection 7.0 (RDP7) client;
    Windows Web Services API (Native code);

    Although extensive, the Platform Update does not bring Windows Vista to the level of features and performance offered by Windows 7. For example, even though DXGI 1.1 update introduces support for hardware 2D acceleration featured by WDDM 1.1 video drivers, only Direct2D and DirectWrite will employ it and GDI/GDI+ will continue to rely on software rendering. Also, even though Direct3D 11 runtime will be able to run on D3D9-class hardware and WDDM drivers using "feature levels" first introduced in Direct3D 10.1, Desktop Windows Manager has not been updated to use either Direct3D 10.1 or WARP software rasterizer.

    By the way. DX11 also adds new features to DX10/10.1 class hardware. Compute Shader 10/10.1, Multithreading, etc. Plus with WDDM drivers your GUI in Vista will use FARE LESS memory as it uses hardware NOT software to render anymore.

    Heres a nice little article as well.

    BattleForge is the only game you can play right now with DX11.

    If you're playing Call of Pripyat then you're a pirate (or you understand a foreign language and imported it).

    I just bought the original on Steam. The real life event fascinates me big time, and I am in awe the actual city is still vacant and un touched. I'd really like to visit it.

    I can't wait to start playing it!

    ^^^^

    I bought it as well when it was $5 earlier in the year too but never really played it. While it a great game i was bummed out by the no 360 controller support. Other then that is looks like a great game though. Really different from a lot of the things i have seen.

    Stalker is absolutely not the kind of game that would even work on an Xbox360 controller. The menus and gameplay would have to be overly simplified, as right now they're made for keyboard shortcuts and the mouse. The interface wouldn't work.

    And Call of pripyat isn't due out in the US til next month or so. I think the improvements while using DX11 are going to be more geared towards performance using tessellation rather than better graphics in stalker call of pripyat.

    Hm, yeah i actually realized that from the main menu, i was like hm, this is a lot of clicking for a main menu. So jumping in i kinda figured. I should probably make them time to play though. The graphics were actually awesome and was surprised by them.
