I am trying to install diablo 2 and its expansion. The original game installs fine but when i try to install the expasion this is how it goes everytime: i put the LOD (expansion) cd in and it asks for the play disk so i do it and it works fine. Then after that it asks for the LOD cd to put back in and i click ok. Then it acts like it goes to install some more but doesn't move and after 40 sec it will ask for the lod disk , but the disk is already in the drive. It will keep doing this and not install any further. The cd is fine and I am almost certain its is caused by vista. Any suggestions?

I would first make sure that Diablo 2 is compatible with Vista, there are a lot of older programs and games that Vista will not run. If Diablo is installing in the 'Program Files' directory, then that may also be causing some problems (vista is very pick about what can be ran from/written to that folder.) Try installing it in a different directory.

Diablo will work with Vista, but you have to play it in XP compat mode.

If you can only play it in compatibility mode, then it is a Vista problem. Diablo 2 is fairly popular, so check around for a patch or something for Vista compatibility.

Sorry, I did read it wrong. If it won't install, it's not usually a Vista problem. Vista's very nice about letting most programs install.

You could try Blizzards suggstions for troubleshooting install problems:

i know this isn't the question, but you don't even need compatibility mode. it comes up with a box saying that its known to have certain issues with vista, but it works fine for me. and it installed no problem.
