I am wondering whether to get a Vista laptop or XP. I have read in some quarters that games can be jerky and run poorly in Vista, particulalry older games. Is this true and which would people recommend I get?

Right now, drivers for Vista are not quite right...they are buggy. If you're a serious gamer I'd stick with XP and consider upgrading in the future if/when needed. Older games aren't as graphically intensive so I'd think they were fine, but the newer ones will certainly take a hit for the worst right now.

This might be a good read for you.
