    Hi peeps,

    Quick question.....

I read somewhere tha tthe Vostro 1500 comes with a 8600GT that is 256 dedicated and also uses upto 1gig turbo cache.

My question is how do you set the turbo cache as my machine states only 512 is in use including the dedicated........

I have 3gig of Ram in my system so i would presume it would use the whole 1 gig as it is available......

Any help on this is greatly appriciated

There is no point in using turbo cache for the 8600GT as 256mb is already enough, and taking memory from ram will be alot slower than using the Vram.

Dedicated + TurboCache is faster than just a dedicated card or just integrated graphics (obv).

Here's how it works on my 8600M GT:
If you have 2GB RAM, the card will use its dedicated memory until it runs out, and then it will pull up to 767MB from the system RAM, for a maximum of 1279MB of graphics memory (I have 512MB dedicated-- but it's DDR2 so don't get too jealous). TurboCache is automatic, and afaik cannot be disabled, but it's only helping you.

If you have 1GB RAM, I think that number is anywhere from 256-512 MB of RAM pulled from the system. But it works the same way.

Edit: I suppose the end result is that you are able to deal with more textures at once during games, but as Johnny T said, 256 will get you a long way. Also, I'm not sure how TurboCache behaves with more than 2GB of RAM. I think it stays the same as 2GB (ie: a system with 4GB RAM will still have 767MB of TurboCache).

2GB (ie: a system with 4GB RAM will still have 767MB of TurboCache).

OK so this is why i only see 256 as turbo correct, my system is running 3 gig of ram, if i ran 4 the turbo cache would up to 767 correct ?

Like a 128bit card is ever going to run through 256mb of RAM? Never seen it happen.

I still firmly believe Turbo-Cache isn't of much use... but I guess I'm alone in that one.
